Should I cut off the barrel or find a solution to keep the cable intact?

Hey Guys,
As many of you have probably noticed, I haven't been exactly active lately, but I have still been checking in. Still up to our old mischief I see.
Anywho, If you look back in the thread a little bit, you might find mention of a trip to the desert around this time. Last weekend was trip #2 for the kart, and it worked flawlessly (for the first bit of the day...)
My problem is, the engine won't stay running. It will start and run for a second then cut off, and not start again for about 20 minutes which then it will do the same thing. Obviously a fuel delivery issue because gas is getting to the carb, but not through it. It will stay sputtering with a steady shot of carb cleaner.
I should take the carb off/apart and clean it, but are there any other suggestions?
I also got a new clutch, chain, and sprocket. switched from #35 to #40. I like it much better. Didn't use a master link either, just put the pin back in. I felt the master link was the weak link in the chain anyways (yes, pun intended).
I'll try to get a picture up from the weekend, its on my phone right now. Thanks for checking in guys!
EDIT - Got the pic. My karts in the front and my friends go ped is behind it. And yes‚ that is a trailer for the go ped with a seat and handlebars. And yes‚ we rode on it around the desert.

You are correct. That is a 3 bolt pump that bolts to the carb. Post the engine numbers, as I have some pumps and rebuilt kits and maybe able to help you out.

I already fixed the pump. Got one from amazon and with some fiddling‚ got it to run.
