Got the key way out no problem with a little heat and a screwdriver.

But there is always a catch...:censored:... The sprocket hub does not want to move. heat, a little mallet, not budging. I don;t think I have any acetone, Would it help a lot if I got some?

The acetone helps to break down the loctite. If that's what's holding the hub in place it's worth a shot but, it needs to run in which means standing your axle on end

As far as I'm concerned blue is a joke. I've had so many things come loose even with blue locktite its not even funny. Red on the other hand is getting close to epoxy, I have had to resort to a impact driver+sledge to remove screws and a 4' breaker bar for bolts. Absolute pain in the a$$ to remove but that bolt/screw is not going anywhere.

Some reading on different grades of locktite.

Just a little update.

I ordered a replacement fuel pump last night from Amazon. That should be here sometime after Christmas.

I was looking around for front tires, and I found these two on BMI:
- http://www.bmikarts.com/item/410350-TireRim-Assembly-262204-262205-or-262206-1085

I realize the first one is out of stock.

My question is, my stub axles in the front are only 3 3/4" long. Do you think that the hubs on those wheels would be narrow enough to fit on the stub axle with room for a nut? Will the bearings be able to withstand some abuse? (More so than the HF bearings at least).

Also, when I redo the steering, the wider tire will make it more difficult to achieve correct ackerman with my forward facing spindles.

It's hard to tell how wide the hub is when we can only see one side of the wheel.

Anything would be better than HF bearings, wouldn't they. It's extremely possible the HF bearings are chinese: When buying bearings, you want Japanese.

Wider wheels won't necessarily be a problem, negative offset would be. If you can find a setup with positive offset, the rims will sit further out, giving you more room for ackermann adjustment

Before Christmas I emailed BMI about the wheels. I got the reply yesterday.

"260145 are from a parts buy out. The owner will be going through shipments that are coming in from a storage warehouse of ours over the next few months. He believes there will be some more but we do not have an exact eta. We will change the availability once we know something for sure. The (262204, 262204 or 262206) all measure 3” bearing to bearing.

Thanks again.

My problem is that the stub axle on my kart is only 3 3/4" long. With a 3" hub, will I be able to have a secure nut on the end? I'll have to do some more meadurements to know for certain, just don't want to spend money on something that won't work!

I'm going out of town and have a lot of school work, so work on the kart will be postponed 'til after the new year.

Well I worked on the fuel pump tonight. I hooked it up per the directions, and the same thing happened that happened with the old pump. Hooked it up, pulled the chord, nothing. I saw I hooked the lines up wrong, so I changed them and tried again. Still nothing. A drop of fuel in the plug hole fired right up. I will try directly priming the carb hose directly in a little bit.

I made a goof. The stub is actually only 3 1/2". The nut is 1/2" wide. Which means it will thread on, but not much.

The pump is obviously getting fuel. I took off the hose to the carb to prime it, and a bunch of fuel gushed out. I am beginning to think the problem is pump orientation. It is upside down and sideways. (even though the instruction manual had it upside down.) I can't get a pic up right now but I will try different orientations and see what works. I tried Jamyers' method of securing the pump but I did not have an adequate place on the side of the block to do so. The bolt was too big to fit the pump ear.

Why does it matter? It will be covered up by the hub

Because the bearing is better off running on the round shaft rather than the thread, especially if the thread is smaller.

I made a goof. The stub is actually only 3 1/2". The nut is 1/2" wide. Which means it will thread on, but not much.

 Looks like something needs to be modded or replaced

AHA!

I got the engine running. Out of ideas, I threw on the cover of the carb (has a choke lever, an air hose to the valves and hold the air filter). THing fired right up on the second pull. the idle is a little rough, but besides that, it seemed to work fine. Went up to full throttle and back down just like it used to.

Now I can finally clean the garage.
