My finished kart

So I started this kart about a year and a half ago. I entered it in the 2017 build off, but didn’t get it finished. I built the whole kart from scratch. My original plan was to put a Honda dirt bike engine on it, but after I rebuilt the motor, I was made an offer I couldn’t refuse on the complete bike. So after I sold that, I decided to just buy a rotaderp to put on it. I also bought a 30 series torque converter.

The last 6 months I got super busy with other projects, but I finally finished the kart up. I just had to put the hydraulic brakes on, make the motor mounts, do the pedals, and some other little stuff. I just painted it and put it all together, and it looks and drives great! I’m very happy with how it turned out.

Thanks! The predator is stock besides governor removal. I am going to use it for a bit like it is and eventually put an air filter/jet/exhaust on it. It already runs good right now so that will really wake it up.

Yes, I did make the seat, just with vinyl, foam, and plywood. The build thread shows how I did it, it wasn’t too complex.

Really good. It is geared 6:1, with a 12t on the jackshaft and a 72t on the axle. It pretty easily breaks traction on gravel or dirt and accelerates good. Top speed is 37 mph with 16” tires and governor removed. At some point I’d like to do some light engine mods and move the gearing to 5:1, so I can get a little more top speed.

Out of curiosity, is there a reason you mounted the bearings the way you did? "Upside down" with a spacer.

It seems like it would have been easier to flip the pillow blocks over and mount them on top of the the bottom frame rail. It looks like the the axle would still be at the same height.

Probably paranoid about bolts breaking like me lol. Probably wouldn't happen I just have issues with bearings that aren't being pushed into something vs. Just a bolt holding it.

This is a really cool kart, I think I like the entire thing. The extra room on the seat sides is cool. As is the color and floorpan. The really cool part is that this is one of the very few all square tube frames that actually looks great and not like a cheesey homemade job. Very nice! I don't think you'll regret the engine upgrades. All of the ones I've done seem to start easier with the bigger jets. Good job for sure.

Well originally I was planning on having springs over the bolts as sort of a mini suspension, but that ended up being an awful idea, it kept binding up and twisting weird. So I just put pipe over the bolts to make it fixed, which works great.

Thank you. I really like how it turned out. I am pretty glad I went the route I did. Even though it took way more time and probably more money to build it completely custom, every part of it is how I want it, and I can say there’s not another one like it.

Yes, I put a lot of time into the steering. It has good Ackerman and I put around 10 degrees I think of caster on the spindle brackets. It steers very good, especially with the same size tires on the front as on the back. I would put slicks on it, but most of the use it gets is on gravel roads or dirt, so the turf tires are there for that reason.

I bet building that water tank was a little cold that is way up on the high line. Where I live, over kinda close to idaho, we get a good amount of snow, but the winters are pretty mild as far as temperature. And way less wind then northern or eastern MT.

I have a power sports kart that shows little to no angle in the steering?? butt I think with the knobby tires makes it turn, I'm running it on grass & gravel. The one I'm building now is getting both angles.




The water tank job was what we say in Michigan, it was a cold one MR. GRINCH !!

Well it’s been a while since I’ve updated my progress on my kart, but I have done a lot. The main things I have done are

1) fabricated a header and bought an air filter/jet kit, it runs very good now

2) purchased 2 LED pods for headlights and a 15” LED tail/brake light, plus a little SLA 12v battery to power the lights

3) wired in all of the lights. I bought some little toggle switches that have a green LED in them, and when you flip the switch on, they light up. Using them for kill switch, headlights, taillights.

4) bought a microswitch to put on my brake linkage, so it has functioning brake lights. When I press the pedal, it turns on. The microswitch is pic #6

5) painted little odds and ends black, like tie rods, my brake caliper mounting piece, and my rear wheels.

I used 1” square tubing, 14 Gauge. It’s plenty strong for a kart that size, but I went with 14 gauge because I thought 16 would be too thin and 11 would be too heavy.

And tgus, not sure how long the pipe is, but it sounds amazing. Maybe not to the neighbors, but to me
