Does your motor say 24 volts?

No, mine motor is 24V; the only difference you would see is a 36V motor will turn slower than a 24V motor running on 24V (because it's not fully powered); regardless of voltage (without being ridiculous about it), the motor will still spin...

AS far as the E-Scooter is concerned, I got this communication from another site I'm a member at......

"Hi Scott, a 36V 1000W motor requires a minimum battery size of 15Ah which are 6" long x 3-7/8" wide x 3-3/4" high. Three 12V 15Ah batteries would be needed to make the 36V battery pack and only two 15Ah batteries could fit in a 4" x 12-1/2" battery compartment so one of the batteries would have to go on top of the footplate or somewhere else.

A 36V 750W motor requires a minimum battery size of 10Ah (5-7/8" long x 2-1/2" wide x 4-5/16" high), and a 36V 500W motor requires a minimum battery size of 8Ah (6" long x 2-1/2" wide x 3-3/4" high). Even with an 8Ah or 10Ah battery pack only two of the batteries would fit in the 4" x 12-1/2" battery compartment so one of them would have to go somewhere else.

That scooter must have had a single 36V battery in it when it was new which is the reason that three 12V batteries (larger than 5Ah) are not fitting in the battery tray.

Three 5Ah batteries would fit in the battery tray, however, 5Ah batteries are only suitable for 350W and smaller motors.

The MOT-361000B 36V 1000W motor would work, however, it is longer than the original 350W motor so a hole would need to be cut in the plastic body of the scooter for the back of it to stick through. It would probably stick out of the body only an inch or two.

You could also use a 36V 500W or 36V 750W motor which would still have a lot of power and provide good speed but would draw less power from the batteries so the range would be longer. The 36V 500W and 36V 750W motors are an inch narrower than the 36V 1000W motor so they would stick out of the scooter's body less than the 1000W motor would.

When a more powerful motor is installed then a more powerful controller will need to be installed along with it. The controller should be the same Watts as the motor or a little higher if one with the same Watts is not available.

Our controllers have wiring pinout directions so you will know what parts to attach to what wires on the controller. You will just track the wires to their parts so you know where the wires go on the scooter. A few of the connectors may not be the same in which case new connectors that we sell could be installed on the wires or the wires could be cut and spliced.

Here is an example of our controller wiring directions so you can see what they look like to get a feel for how to connect a controller to the scooter: https://electricscooterparts.com/hookup/SPD-361000B.htm

If any of the wire connectors on the scooter need to be changed we sell matching connectors for the controller on this page: https://electricscooterparts.com/whitewiringconnectors.html

You may want to consider installing a 24 Volt motor and controller because then the battery pack could consist of two 12V 15Ah batteries which would fit in the battery tray. We have a 24 Volt 500 Watt motor with a mounting base which is our item # MOT-24500X2500B. This motor could provide speeds of up to 20 MPH on flat ground.

Please let us know if you have any questions."

OK, I know and I'm sorry. I know ya'll have been waiting for a progress report and I have returned with something to report. I stripped ALL unnecessary wiring and am getting ready for the next step of building it with new stuff to make it scream :D . I even left the throttle in place in case I can still use it ( has three wire leads and maybe they all do). And I gained a horn for my chopper!! Or did I?? That thing has TWO red wires coming off it and I take it, it was grounded with it's mounting bolt so I wonder if it's 24 volts then? Is there such a thing for a horn that small? I don't know how to make it sound off. I tried a few things but maybe not the key thing. Anyway, here's what I got to show you from today's progress. Tell me what my next move should be. I also tested 12v from one of my GPS batteries to the motor and it was awesome!! Just with 12 volts, that beast said 'let's ride biotch'! :D
And size 12.5" tires? I wonder if I could buy a power hub in that case then. Advantages? Disadvantages? Thanks.

Thanks for the information. I might have to tuck a battery in the trunk. My battery tray is 6" high, 4.25" wide and 12.5" long............ Orrrrrrrrr...... 150mm high, 117mm wide and 317mm long. What about that horn I recovered? How can I use it in my 12v. chopper?

You can mod your battery tray to take larger batteries, but since the stock batteries are 3 x 12v 12ah's, the replacements should fit fine.

(EDIT) Here are the specs on the replacement batteries:

Product Description:

- 12 Volt / 12AH Hour
- Dimension: 151mm(L) x 99mm(W) x 96mm(H) x 102mm(TH) - 5.94"(L) x 3.90"(W) x 3.78"(H) x 4.02"(TH)
- Terminal Type : Faston-F2 (0.250"x0.032") Quick Disconnect Tabs

So they will fit in the tray. :)

How can I use it in my 12v. chopper?

As for your horn, it should work on any 12v power supply, hook it up to any 12v battery and test it, a car battery will work. The neg is usually on the outside rim. Ear plugs are advised!

BTW, what 12v setup do you have on your chopper?

Yesterday I saw that my neighbor sat a three wheel scooter to the curb with a 'FREE' note on it. Needless to say, I ran over like an elf after he left and I rolled it into my shop as fast as I could. Later I learned there was a neutral lever LOL.... Good thing it was in neutral or I would have never figured out how to get that heavy beast home! I am charging the two 12 volt batteries that came with it and I'm not holding my hopes high though. I did disassemble the front half from the rear and removed the cool pivoting/folding seat that would be awesome for a go kart built.

Well this much I know is: It is 12 volts, the motor is long and skinny and attatched to a transmission!!!! Wow, maybe some type of build is in my future if I can figure out how to use it on something. The controls tell me it has forward and reverse and a dial for speed!! The dial feels cool when you turn it up or down as it feels new when listening to it on it's variable system. I am yet to find the horn. I know that the variable dial takes the place of a throttle and I would like to figure out how to use it if I can. It's pretty cool how with a throw of a lever under the floor board pad, you can remove the front half from the rear. I have no idea what makes that rear end feel like it weighs 100 pounds!

Do I have something worth keeping in parts? Before i really start stripping it too badly, I'm thinking of what I want to do and with what parts. What would you do? What would you keep and why? Thanks for looking and if you want more photos, let me know. Just what do I have here?? I stil need the ESC, throttle and 3 batts for my other cool scooter. Thanks, Scott

Would it be OK for me to tell you that I utterly despise you for your find! ;)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5i1cJIwE7M

Nice! I would say that the motor and transmission are probably good, just dead batteries. If you post up what ah's they are, I'll find some online for you.

If it was me, I would run it at 36v, (add another battery). In general, 24v setup's are a bit on the slow side. If your gentle on the throttle and don't throw too many amps at the motor, you probably won't fry it! ;) If you go that route, you will need a new controller:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/36V-48V-35...275518&hash=item33d638e773:g:MicAAOSwcndZsRoS

Of course, you could drop in a 6.5 hp if you have an extra! :devil2:

You lucky, lucky bastish!

(EDIT) BTW, what's the label on the motor say? And do you have a pic of the controller?

I think the whole thing is awesome! Great find man, (you have MUCH better neighbors than me!)

The speed knob is probably to a potentiometer and just limits or increase the amount of power to the motor. If your lucky, it might even have a hall effect sensor, which means that you can swap it out for a twist throttle. The fact that it's on the "dash" probably means that the transmission is geared down, so you might have to regear it to get any decent speed. Be careful when you remove the wiring, there is probably a shunt for the "fuel gauge".

Well, It does have two sets of wires coming out of it. I figure that was one set for forward and one for reverse. One set seems to be heavier that the other. I'll count the wires. OK, it's got four wires. Initially two heavy and two thin leading into another heavy pair to one main plug. I figure the two heavy wires are the main drive wires. I have no need to reverse the motor but it should be brushless if it has reverse right? I see that the motor part ## is included on that sticker/label.

What cool projects do you see this being used in? I'm thinking a land driven surf board? Obviously the vehicle will have two wheels in the back and somehow it is steerable by rear drive wheels if I can figure that part out.

Oh boy! I have to hop over to my chopper build thread cause I got more goodies!!!! :D

I don't think that it's a brushless motor, they usually have 3 wires. It's probably a DC brushed, that's what they have on their website for this type. You could hook up the wires to 12v battery and see if the motor spins. If it does, then I will start mumbling under my breath about your luck! ;)
