If you don't mind me asking, why won't your dad help you?

If it's a matter of him thinking you won't follow through, he may change his mind once bits & pieces start showing up (unless that would send him over the edge).

Another option is to find a friend who is willing to go halves with you & build it at his place.

I admire your drive so, if you really want it, you'll figure it out

Hello everybody!

It's been a long time, I know. Sorry for that...
Since begin January, it started freezing en snowing here. We got more than 10cm of snow last week, and it's still laying here. The problem is that I cannot work properly on my gokart as all cutting and most of the welding is done outside + I don't like the cold, so I stay inside. :D

Anyhow, my friend (the one who is helping me with this project) is coming over tomorrow. We are going to mock up the pedals and make a floor plate out of wood. This will be changed later to diamond plate, the wood is just for testing and for the right dimensions...

Actually, we aren't that far off from a first test drive with this new engine on. Can't wait to check it out!

But, I have a question, which I've asked before, but it got worse in the meantime (or am I just getting harder for myself :p) - the gokart is tilting sideways, due to the engine's weight. I'm afraid the battery's weight an myself won't be enough to counterweight. I've been thinking about drilling a new hole at the right side of my swingarm pivot, so it's moved downwards. Basically, it'll make my swingarm a bit tilted now, but it'll straighten out my gokart. Also, I don't think it'll be tilted that much that you'll notice it...

What do you guys think about this? What should I do the counterweight the weight of the engine, rather than placing my battery on the right side and moving my seat sideways aswell?

@uae.2019 - I am not allowed to distribute these plans, as mentioned before by other people aswell. I am sorry.

Sorry man but, asked & answered. I wouldn't start messing with the positioning of anything so, the battery & your weight should be enough to balance it

"Pictures tomorrow" turned out to be delayed once again... Weather is really annoying me lately.

Anyway, here are a few pics of my brake setup. Cable will be attached tomorrow. ;)

So, the cable attaches to the hole in the bttom of the bracket which pulls to the left of pic?

Are those brackets cable retainers?

Yes and yes. :)

I did my first test drive today after installing the brakes ofcourse.
It weny pretty well, I got 5meter further! I need to get a chain tensioner first. Reinforce the rear swingarm drastically and make a floor pedal for my foot to reat while using the pedals.

Next week =no school, so thata the week I hope i will be driving this gokart around the garden. Once that is a success, its time for fine tuning and painting. :)

Btw, the cable in the pic is just mockup.

Yes and yes. :)

In that case, nice work :thumbsup:

Oh good coz it'd be a lot better running above the frame instead of below it.

Also, IIWM, I'd drill another hole closer to the centre of the bracket & a bit higher: you should always try to drill holes in the centre of metal strips & the same distance from the end, it's the strongest point

Yeah, I know. The hole was already there for a previous use of this piece of metal I found in my scrap metal box. I was too lazy to drill a new hole. :surrender:

Anyway, will do that though. Doesn't look strong, as you say, Fabroman. :cheers2:

Vacation started! What's on my list:
*Line out swingarm and strengthen it drastically.
*Make chain tensioner.
*Move brake cable holder. It's in the way for my clutch pedal.
*Make a floor plate around the pedal. I need place to put my feet on to while using the pedals.

Once all of this has been done, I'll post a photo update here and then I'll do some more testing. Once the testing is successfull (which is driving for atleats 100meter without accidents), it's time to get the wiring done and install my battery and mount the chair. Once all of that has been done, it's time to fine tune and lastly painting! :cheers2:

I posted a picture of the pedals before and after.
The photo with the wooden floor, is how it looks now. As you can see, the cables are nicely ordered and they dont touch my feet.

It looks like you are getting close to being done.

I did my first testdrive today! Didn't hook up the gear lever yet, just asked my dad to put in first and then off I went! :D It went pretty good, except for the fuel tank, that isn't mounted yet. The first thing I'm going to do is get that mounted, be sure the brakes are hooked up to the axle with their keyway (the keyway fell out) and straighten the engine. It is slightly tilted right now. I am going to weld a piece of metal from the top of the engine mount, to my roll bar.

It is also good to see that you are keeping your workspace all neat and swept up :D
I'm glad you noticed. I clean it up every now and then.

Video of my first test drive is uploading to youtube. I'll edit this post. Once it's uploaded. Meanwhile, I'm back in the garage to do what has been said above. Fuel tank and engine. :D

Can't wait to drive the whole neighbourhood around with it. :cheers2:
