And... I've changed plans once again. Sorry Fabroman...

The engine will be mounted next to me. I moved the engine much more to the left, so I still have clearance for my swingarm.

On the pics, the engine looks slightly tilted, don't look at that yet, I still need to weld it strongly to the frame.

BTW, my frame sat a night outside, while it was raining. I totally forgot about it and now you can see the result... everything is starting to rust. I'll try to paint it as soon as possible!

Regards,
Nodroz

Right on! This engine will wake things up! Will the oufput sprocket be in line with the swingarm pivots, or are you using a spring-loaded chain tensioner?

The swingarm pivot will be in line with the output sprocket. Either way, I am going to use a tensioner anyway.

Alright, got the swingarm pivots worked out today!
The holes are nicely lined up with the engine sprocket. As said above, I am going to use a chain tensioner in either case, so it won't hurt if I'm 1mm off center.

I have a question to you guys
What do you think about using the swingarm of the pitbike? It already has bushings and it also has almost the same width as my mounts are set up at the moment. I just have to move them a little bit to outer sides.

If I'm going to use that swingarm, my plan was to make at the end wider to support my axles on both outer sides, next to the wheels.

What do you think about that? Or would it better to just make a complete new swingarm that will look very similar to the pitbike one?

EDIT: You can see my rented welder in one of the pics. Read more about my welding choises in this topic: http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?p=246735#post246735
EDIT EDIT: ****, my frame looks really rusty on the last picture... need to paint as soon as my swingarm has been finished!

Photos are below!

My 2 cents: If you use the pitbike swingarm, you either have to modify your frame (aren't you sick of doing that yet?) or modify the swingarm. Both options involve cutting, more cutting, positioning, fitting, welding, a bit more welding & lots of time

IIWM, I'd make a swingarm based on the same design; it'll be quicker & easier. Yes, there's all of the above involved in fabbing but, nowhere near as much

It's been a while once again, sorry! I've been busy with my school (exams) and finding a new welder + the weather has been horrible the past days. It's been raining all day!

Today we had a dry day so I decided to work on my gokart. Last night I practiced welding quite a bit on various settings. I was ready for the "real" work.

I did quite a bit of work actually. I hooked up the pitbike arm. Yes, I decided to use that. It's a good base to start off and it's really strong... It may not look that good as if I made it completely myself, but who cares. Aslong as it's strong and I can drive this gokart I'm happy for now.

On the pictures you can see the frame is indeed tilted a bit. This is because of the heavy weight of the engine on the right side... I'm not sure how I will fix this. I'll try changing the front spring to be a little bit stiffer. Hope that will work!

Ofcourse I'm going to re-inforce the rear swingarm... this is just for mock up. I've already cut the metal, I just need to get them welded in place. Altough, without the extra reinforcement, the swingarm looks quite strong though.

Nodroz, shut up now, show us some pics!
Here they are!

Any comments or suggestions are more than welcome!

Sit in it & get someone to take pics. You may find that your weight will be enough to offset the weight of the engine & balance the frame
