$400!

I think the brand is called Manco, Brand new motor DuroMax 16HP (Electric Start), new paint, new tires and recovered seats. The rear axle is slightly bent and the C Clutch sticks, but I think I can fix that stuff! Pretty cool, eh?

I just bought a DuroMax 16HP for another project and that alone was $289, so I'm feeling pretty good...

Thanks Everyone! Question: the C Clutch on this thing is not disengaging. So when I come to a stop, it dies. Also, when I try to start the wheels turn... Ok, one last one: I noticed when I took the maiden voyage at night, the C clutch got so hot, it turned red.
Any thoughts? Besides that, this thing is in awesome condition! Engine is brand new!

What's your gear ratio?
If you don't know this: give us your amount of teeth on the rear sprocket and on the clutch. You might aswell give us your tire diameter.

Maybe the gearing to too high, so the clutch is burning out.
About the slipping - maybe your springs are worn out?

I would think a kart like that may have had a TC at one point, now thats its switched to a C clutch the gear ratio is probably too high... you could get a bigger rear sprocket, add in a jack shaft, or you could find a 40 series TC...

Yep, you're right BM. The guy gave me the 6.5hp and TC that came with it. Unfortunately, it's a 3/4" 30 series. I'll get the tooth count and tire sizes up in the morning.

Wifey is making me take her out to dinner - she said no more kart time today! Lol.

With the change of engine, that TC will not fit now like you say. The Duromax has a 1" shaft. Post your tooth count when you can. Where are you thinking of riding? Flat, hills, onroad, etc...

Hi Guys
Sorry for the delay. Here's the info:
Clutch: 10 Teeth
Sprocket: 60 Teeth
Tire Size: 18"

Mostly will be flat land, maybe some small hills, but again, mostly flat land.

Any thoughts?

Get a Comet 40. Be sure to open up the driver clutch and lube up the rollers, roller tracks, and the bronze bushing. That helps the Comet 40 drivers keep from seizing up and the rollers from getting off track. Dont use a C clutch with that big of a motor, just asking for trouble. :)

I made my own rear axle with 1" rod (40 cents a lb at the scap yard) and ground out my own keyway with a metal cutting disc.

Be sure to put your sprocket right next to a bearing to prevent axle flux. Add a bearing and bearing hanger if you have to.

With tyres that large and a heavyish kart, a gear ratio of 6:1 will be too steep (high). If you could maybe swap the 60T with a 72T sprocket (or even larger if you have clearance) you would do much better. Your clutch is burning up because of your high gearing.

I would also suggest a 40 series TC, but if you gear low enough, you should get by with a cc.

:iagree:

You will get much more out of your engine with a torque convertor.
