My 5HP Manco Dingo 285, ready to hit the trails...

I'm new here btw, glad to join a forum that knows all about karts and such! Anyways, I bought this Dingo for $350, the wheels wobble a little, but that's because the hubs themselves are bent, the axle itself is straight.

Also, the original owner put a governor on the 5 hp engine, so it's pretty slow. I was thinking of ways to make it go faster without governor removal?

So, despite all of these things, I got an ATV safety card and an ATV permit, so I'm looking forward to taking this to the trails soon.

I'm pretty sure he took off the manufacturer installed governor, then after a time he just re-installed it. Are you sure there isn't a risk of blowing the engine, or increased wear on the internals if I take it off?

It is pretty small, but I'm kinda short so it works out...

Love the dingos. Nice ride.

Where in Oregon you located?

I'm in Gresham, east of Portland, there's a place called Brown's Camp Ohv that's around 1 hour away on the east side of Portland, I'm planning to go there soon.

Manco nailed it on the Dingos. They drive and turn great. Don't change a thing.

Alright, I'll just maintain it and make it last long...so about Brown's Camp, I've never been there, how are the trails? I needed to know a decent trail that loops so I don't get lost, since I'm planning to go up there in a few days.

it depends on what else the PO did

it will shorten the life a bit

but industrial engines are built very tough so u are shortening a 30yr life to 20 (not exactly but u get what i mean)

most of the time the stock valve springs limit the rmp to around 5000rpm
(stock is 3600)

of coarse u dont keep it pinned all the time, no engine can handle that

I forgot to mention, the engine has a surging idle, I was told it wouldn't make a difference on the longevity of the engine, but it feels like it's about to shut off at times when I'm barely touching the throttle. I know that I need to clean/replace the carburetor, I'm just not sure if I really need to go do all the work or not. Other than that, it seems to run fine at moderate/full throttle.
