Like opinions, peoples likes & dislikes vary greatly; what one person likes, another may hate so, this thread is about what type of music you like & dislike?

Like I said, everyone is different so NO ARGUMENTS over who or what is better, just a light hearted discussion

Personally, my (rather extensive) music collection contains everything for Mozart to Machinehead... except jazz... but I favour rock; Ozzy Osbourne, AC/DC, Nickelback, Evanescence, Within Temptation, just to name a few.

I also really appreciate the work of Hans Zimmer & the like (pretty much any recent movie score) &, a new discovery, Two Steps From Hell (as featured in my vid)

Interesting topic, Rush is. They are a local band to me, started up maybe 30 miles away from my current location. And no, I'm not keen on them. They are VERY talented, accomplished musicians. But in my opinion, they try to hard to make "messages". Much like U2 (which I cannot stand), there's too much socio-political stuff for my taste. I don't want to wave a flag or save a tree- I want to have fun. Rock 'n' roll is about how it makes you feel, not who the heck to vote for. I want to pump my fist in the air, do drum solos on my steering wheel, and play air guitar. If Rush and U2 were to just shut up and play, I'd love them both...

TBH, I'm not familiar with too much of Buddy Rich's work but, IMO, it's a toos up between Lars Ulrich & Tommy lee; Lars knocks out some pretty anazing beats but, Tommy can do the same upside down!

Having said that, Joey Jordanson from Slipknot is giving both of them a run for their money...

I like rock. Almost all forms. Mostly heavy, but some alternative too. Punk also.

Really, anything at all that makes me feel something. Feel something good. As in.... no country. Ever. I could go on to further explain my disdain for that sound, but I don't want to offend. Loathe is the word. Enough said there.

I personally will listen to anything. I too have an appreciation for Hans Zimmer.

Only one type of music I really don't care for much, and that's rap. Not that it's bad, just I don't care much for it.

Each week, I find a type of music from different parts of the world and listen to it. Never know what you'll find.

Anyhow... RUSH!!!! Definitely one of my all time favorites. The combined talent in that band is unparalleled, IMO.

I could listen to Fly By Night, Permanent Waves, and Moving Pictures for weeks straight and not get sick of it. As a matter of fact, I have.

I'm also not a huge fan of (c)rap/hip hop but, there's no denying the talent of Marshall...

I heard a story many years ago that Deep Purple played so loud in Rio (in the 70's) that it measured on the richter scale

They were good but, as Doc pointed out, Axl is a tool (& there's another band ) On the Use your Illusion tour, they had two busses, one for Axl & one for the rest of the band...

I seem to be in the same boat as Kelly, except the only two types of music that I really can't stand are rap and "NEW COUNTRY!!" (italics and capitalization based on two local radio stations at war ATM).

Rap as a format just doesn't interest me; the fact that some prominent Rappers can cross over into other formats gives me hope for it (listening to a hard core rap fan going ballistic while he's listening to his Uncle Cracker CD for the first time was awesome; apparently being able to actually sing was against one of his personal laws...).

As for "NEW" Country music, I just really have no use for someone singing an "ode" to their pickup, or how they think plugging up traffic with a piece of farm equipment is a blast.

"OLD" country, like what I grew up listening to back in the 1970's and 1980's usually had a story to tell, but the artists didn't fake an accent just to come across as "country". The singer could be anyone; the new format has totally lost that. That being said, there are a lot of talented people in "NEW" country that have a lot of potential; all they have to do is dump the act and go with their talents and instincts.
