Very little but:
1. Is there enough space to mount the larger engine?
2. Are you running a centrifugal clutch or torque converter? Either way you'll have to replace it as the 16hp will have a larger output shaft.

It would be relatively easy but could turn out to be very expensive

Yes there is plenty of space space.
I am running a torque converter, and both of the output shafts are 1"

I have a Murray kilowatt myself...awesome kart with plenty of room for a bigger motor...only complaint I have it that the teeth on the steering sector are worn and won't be long before they are gone completely, an I can't find a replacement anywhere.

Can you maybe have one made/machined for you? Just throwing that out there....

EDIT:

I did a bit of googling, and maybe you could try these people:

Get hold of them.

Okay that was my bad it is a 3/4" so I decided to get the smaller 7hp duromax so I wont have to go through all the trouble to get a new torque converter and it will save alot of money thanks for the help

Because the engine that's in there hasn't been started in about two years and its in pretty bad shape so I decided to just get a new one for around 170 instead of trying to find the stuff I need to fix the one in there

As far as the steering on this go kart, i just changed mine to a standard setup. I wouldnt waste the money to get another gear setup, not worth it IMO.

No more slop in the steering and much more reliable, wont have to worry about the gear stripping on hard cornering.

I will post some pics later today on a new thread for anyone with these karts.
