murray explorer with suspsion

last weekend i took my Murray explorer and my china gocart and combined them. I think its pretty good idea cause the swing arm was the only good piece on the china gocart and the Murray needed a live axial. Here it is i also took the seat from the china gocart to with welding i don't have over 30 dollars for every thing in this gocart im gonna run a 5 hp Briggs in it.

yeah the swing arm bolts on just like it did on the china gocart i cut the back off it and welded it to the back of the murray

The way I see it you have 3 options. I'll start with the easiest to most difficult:

1. Move the shock mounts to lift the frame away from the axle.
2. Move the shock mounts to lower the frame & set the axle above the frame. This is an option, but not a good one as it severely reduces ground clearance.
3. Cut the frame somewhere around the rear plate & in front of the axle, invert the pieces & weld them back in. (see pic below)

No, I don't think that would be close to good enough. That gives you a 5:1 ratio with a reasonable sized kart. You will get moving but you will burn up your clutch too fast. I suggest a 72T sprocket, and even better, also get a 10T clutch if you haven't already got the 12T

A 10T will give you 6:1. That is better than the 5:1. If it were me, I would try get a bigger axle sprocket, but you can try the 10T and see if it works for you. If not, you are going to have to think of other options.

I totally agree that you need a lower gear ratio. If it were me I would also go for 8:1. Getting a 72T sprocket might be less hassle though. You will then have a 7.2:1 ratio with a 10T sprocket. I would still prefer lower though if it were mine. You don't want to go struggling just over grass.

i can't find a sproket that six that will fit the hub ill make a jack shaft i would really rather have tork then speed so what size sprocket should i run on the jack shaft

This was my set up for the go kart with 13" wheels and it worked great for hills.

10 tooth clutch to a 28 tooth on the jack shaft and a 13 tooth on the jack shaft to a 45 tooth on the axle.

It gave me a 9.7:1 ratio and topped out at 25km/h but it got there fast and could pull any thing.(literally, I pulled the atv up our 40 degree hill that's 30-40 feet tall.) I found that more fun than when It was at 5:1 and topped out at 45 but struggled up hills.

well im saying good by to it tommorow im get 125 for it and a 5.5 ohv briggs with little use all it needs is a chain,brake work, and some other little stuff
