Ok guys. I've tried not to ask silly questions on the forum, but I'm having trouble with driven clutch spring. I was wanting to purchase a new 5/8x7inch driven clutch, but I notice that the one listed for a Murray has a green spring, and black buttons like the OEM I have now. The cheaper one same size has Red spring tan buttons? What is the difference in spring color?
Also the comet has 3 holes to choose from on spring tension. It's set in #2 from factory. Is #1 more torque? Will #3 give higher top end?
Thanks.

no difference (except colour)

7 inch??... I don't know the CtC distance for your murray kart, but check before you order the driven;
chances are, it might not fit
(distance is less important than availability of matching belt for the distance in questin ;))

Now, it's the other way around.. the more preload the spring gets (3 has more preload than 1)
the later it shifts to a higher gear thus it'll provide the maximum torque for a longer time
and reaches top speed maybe a tad later.

no matter what setting the spring is in, the maximum torque and the top speed will remain unchanged though!

The only thing you can change by altering the spring preload is the time it shifts in either direction.

Thanks. After research I found a little info on spring color. Green is lower torque due to size and weight of the Explorer! Takes a lot to get her going. It came with the 7inch stock, and that's what I'm running now. Just bought the OEM belt right off Amazon and it works fine, but the sheaves are rusted beyond repair. Guess I'll pony up and get the comet OEM.
Thanks for the reply.
