Hi guys! I was given a Murray explorer go kart. Its been outside for years. The gas tank was full of water as well as the oil. I drained the oil and gas tank. Now what? The engine is a techumesh 6hp. Any advice on how to get this baby running? My kids are freaking and I don't want to let them down. Any and I mean any advice is appreciated! Thanks and god bless

Seriously, the easiest way is to get a $99 predator from harbor freight & swap it out.

The other option is to pull the Tec right down & clean it all out. With water in the tank, worst case means it got down into the carb & then down into the cylinder itself causing corrosion, which pretty much means a full rebuild.

Now, I did say that's worst case but, you won't know until you pull the head off & have a look.

Option 3 is throw some oil & gas in it & hope for the best...

id surgest option 3

u cant do any more damage really and u cant fix the damage thats already done
as long as the air filter and exhaust was on id just fill it up and give it greif

then change the oil again and see what happens

Drain the crankcase & tank, refill & yank the cord. Bet the carb is gummed up, if it won't fire pour a little gas in the carb & try again. If it fires the carb is shot.

If it were my money I'd just get a clone if the frame is solid. The HF Preditor is $119.00, but they have a cupon out now valid until Feb for $99.00

thanks all for the tips! Tore it down today!

Well drained the crank case and fuel tank. Engine had compression. Looks like carburetor is shot also coil is shot. Tore down motor it appears to be fine. After alot of thought im leaning towards the new engine. Coil carbon etc around $100 so why not just go new. How hard is it to swap out? The kart has a torque converterwith belt and chain and sprocket on the other. Never done it before!

Check the shaft diameter
It will be around 3/4 in

Then check the bolt pattern for the backing plate on the converter

Then check the mounting of the engine

U should be able to find the specs on the web under clone
Or Honda engines
Or just go down to the local shop and measure up a new engine

It should be real easy as the converter is Likely going to be an easy fit

But u may have to mod the mounting plate

well got the tec off and h.f mounted just need a little more help.

Does anyone have a pic of the belt guard on a muddy explorer? I forgot how it was mounted. I will say the swap was super easy and that's from someone with no experience. Haven't hooked up throttle yet so got a little work before were off the ground. Like I said if anyone has a pic of the torque converter cover that shows how it mounts would be a life saver! God bless all!

The guard normally just clips onto the backplate

Thanks for the vid but his was missing. Really need a pic. Thanks all for the help!

Maybe we should get a p[ic from you. Not all backplates are the same, and the cover could attach differently with each. Take pic of your backplate as well as the cover, looking for any attachment areas.
