which would be a better set-up?

so i was talking to my shop teacher and showed him how far i've gotten so he said with my transaxle i could get it to move but not more then 10mph, so he advised me if i want to get any type of speed to use a mule belt (v-belt) or angled setup instead.

what do u guys think of this?

didn't know that.. but i'm saying in a way which would be more cost effective?

Cost effective would be to overdrive the transaxle. Which is large pulley on engine small on transaxle. The way to not really mess the transaxle up would be to buy new smaller gears for the transaxle.

You mean small on transaxle large on engine right? that would give him more speed.

The best way to get speed with minimal stress on the transaxle would be to run the transaxle at stock speed, then run a sprocket and chain from each side of the axle to a kart axle with the tires on it, and then you can change the gearing that way.

hey Kaptain, are you sure the racing mowers are using a transaxle? The ones I've seen have ripped them out and installed a live axle.

Some do, some dont. I know a guy who use the same 920 transaxle i have with an 18 twin and got up to around 55mph. The 920 transaxle is pretty weak, so Rotore's should be able to hold up to 20, at least. Its true, normally they do use 700 series, or 820 series transaxles (heavy duty, lots of needle bearings and 1" axles).

Some use a peerless gearbox. Which is a RAGB with gears just like the transaxle, but you can hook a live axle on it.
