Hey guys! Pretty much my first thread. My gig is small engines, more tward lawnmower modding. I do own a 6.5 baja mini bike, and a yerf dog with a 5hp Tecumseh im selling soon.

So today its just focusing on my pride and joy, my MTD mower. Im not going to include every thing but it features:

Double pulley belt clutch scratch built
Custom mesh grill and chopped hood
Welded console to frame
Swapped 5 speed transaxle
Deleted slots in rear fender from mower deck levers and metal boat trailer fender extentions
3ft 1"x1" chassis bracing underneath
Pulley swapped 4" to 4"
12.5HP B&S with stack & rain cap
Custom front frame extension
Leaf sprung front axle from 70's snowmobile
Atv tires rear (21's rear 16's front)
Foot throttle and hand brake
Bumpers front and rear
Scratch built gear side shifter.

This build has totaled to around $200-275 at current date.

That is one killer mower. I have always wanted to get one to fool around with, but they are ridiculously expensive here. Even for secondhand ones.

That's how it is here. I get most of my parts from a junkyard. Everything but tires is $.35. Bought a 21.5hp v twin for $31 there. Best score there yet. :wai:

My tradesman had the same single tierod setup as the smaller mtds and with one swipe of a tree resulting in a rollover (3.5 flips) I broke the tierod mount on the spindle, broke the corner of the gear the other end mounted to, and bent the spindle to spindle tierod so bad that with one wheel strait, the other was near full lock. Insodently that brought on the new hood and grille, exo-cage, troybuilt steering, duct tape steering wheel... well, you get the idea. Im toyin with the idea of using my Montgomery wards fnr transaxle guts to build an overkill steering box.

Did a few thing to this sence this posting

Swapped engine to a 16.5 briggs opposed, put it in sideways so i didnt hack my hood up (it woulda been a massacure), made a air filter tube for the mini air filter hat (4 1/2" dia), fabbed up some dual sidepipes, and mounted a new gas tank.

Heres a sweet video of the snow romp:

I also have videos of the engine swap from start to finish. few of videos of it running. I need a new battery then i can tune it in better. I plan on ripping the whole back end outta it in spring for a new axle and re do clutch and shifter and some new tires.

Working on a mechanical winch. All custom and i haven't seen someone make something like this before so ill give it a shot. It runs off the engine, and has its own bet system. Its 4" pulley on the engine, and 7 1/2" on the gearbox. 49" kevlar belt and custom clutch and linkage for the belt, green handle drawed back means it is disengaged. From the gear box (2.5:1 ratio) its a 8T to a 40T, lots of reduction for slow winching. Shooting for 30-45 rpm at 1000rpm engine idle. Using #40 chain on the sprockets. Jackshaft is also the spool drum, and was a rear axle from my 60's speed mower, has these cast pillow block bushing thingys (lol) with grease zerks. 3/4" axle, i still need to weld some washers so the axle doesnt walk around, get some grade 8 mounting bolts, belt guides, and paint! Close to being done, just a little in the middle of things update.

Few things i did and the winch is DONE. Belt retainers, welded some washers on the jackshaft, cleaned the gearbox out, packed, sealed up, and re mounted it, then ripped it to the bare chassis, painted the winch parts, and then the exhaust and chassis were painted mat-black. Came out awesome. might paint the orange winch parts black. Woo hoo!
