Just finished this project up. I picked up 3 of these MBX10's from a friend for 300.00 2 started right up and this kids love them. The 3rd had a broken keyway on the shaft so I started looking into putting the Predator 212 in it. I found a few threads of people doing it but didn't find any with a torque converter as well, so now that I have finished it up I figured I would throw it up here for others to see and get ideas from.
My build was pretty simple,
Predator 6.5hp Hemi motor
3/4" bore torque converter from CNC Shop on Amazon
A few beers, a few nuts and bolts, and about 4hrs total build time.
First thing first the muffler was removed because it wasn't going to work, then the torque converter plate has 3 holes that line up with the motor, but in order to get the plate mounted as straight as possible rather then pointing down like most are I drilled out the centers of the 3 holes making them slots, put the 4 bolts in loosely swung the plate up as much as it would go and torques the bolts down.
Now if you were to just toss the motor in the was it now sits, you would have to cut half of the plate off where it will touch the frame, so what I did was drilled the new holes for the motor and threw 1/2 nuts under the motor to space it up about 1/2" what this did was made it to where I only had to take a small dime sized notch out of the plate where it touches the frame.
The chain tensioner had to get cut off and welded back on about 3in back, those without a welder could easily just run the bike without a tensioner. The exhaust I built out of some DOM tubing I had laying around, again those without a welder can buy a pipe from Ebay or Amazon for a Honda Clone, the air filter box did touch the frame so I removed the box for now, I am going to purchase a open filter for the motor later. Belt cover went on perfect, I cut the chain cover to fit tight up against the converter cover, the rear fender stayed in its original location.
Testing, was better then expected. I am 5'10" 160lbs and it pulls me up hills like its no problem, it does wheelie pretty hard off the line, so you have to take off easy then give her full throttle. Top speed is about 45mph at least I will GPS it later. All in all its one heck of a mini bike.
