I was thinking of using a peerless transmission (I have read all of the bad things that can happen, but it's free and I want to try it out :wai:) but I want a clutch that ain't a belt tensioner system. I was thinking I could use the clutch system off a motorized bike. I am guessing the pads would wear out quickly and it would skip a lot but I don't know. Also new pads are cheap...

Well a cent. clutch wouldn't disengage instantly if I let off the throttle. I want to have no power going to the gearbox so it will last longer and not wear out.

But........hmmmm......has that even been done before?
And lol if it works out and works well then I'll be a genius :wai::idea2: Or maybe not....

What clutch are you thinking? There aren't really many options of a manual cluch out there like your asking.

DBR is about the most your getting and that's not really all that good option.

A clutch from a motorized bike kit. Like this..... http://www.bikeberry.com/engine-kit-parts/2-stroke-clutch/complete-2-stroke-clutch-rebuild-kit.html I would have to make a little housing for the clutch but I think I could make it work.

Pretty much the engine would turn that large gear. When engaged the sprocket turns, but when a pin/dowel/whatever you shove down there pushes the rod in the hole through that nut (image 3) it disengages the dry plate. Image 4 shows the spring and bearings. I could make little bearing hangers or replace them with different ones, like some pillow block bearings or something like that for easy mounting. I would have to bore out/modify the gear that is on the engine in order to fit 3/4 shaft or whatever size the engine shaft is.

I guess the better thing to ask at this point....
What is the motor being used, and what is this being used for... Bike 4 wheeler...

Well I was planing on building the engine... I was thinking about making a small OHV 400cc (or whatever size, more then 6.5hp) v-twin, I would use the pistons and cam and maybe crankshaft from a gx200 and I would make the cylinders, crankcase, heads, and all that good stuff. Also I would have automatic intake valves (cool looking and would make it a bit simpler) I have drawn quite a few pictures and I have a great understanding of how and what I would do. That said I don't have a machine shop and or access to one. In the spring I want to make a shed and get a mill, lathe, pipe bender, tig welder (or make an hho welder) and just the basic machine shop tools. As of now I can't actually make the engine so it's just ideas for down the road.

In the meantime I think I could rig it up to 212 and slap it on a mini bike (for testing purposes...)

Also my plan for the future is I would make a 3-speed-v-twin-hard-tail-flat-tracker-maybe-street-legal-vintage-looking-little-motorbike...

Ambitious....

HHO welder.....-joke....

Get a tombstone welder, a Bottle of gas, and a tig rig setup... Easy tig welder...

EDIT: Sorry.. I was on ending break as I wrote that last.... Just reread that last post there... Aluminum will be a no go on that easy setup..
Unless you have a ample supply of helium, aluminum doesn't weld well with dc...
Going to need cash for the good machine to do that.

Yeah it's quite ambitious. :smiley_omg: Also you think making an HHO welder is silly? It might be but I'm still going to make one (a cheapish one) and if it doesn't work I'll have a new and easy way to make explosions. :wai:

Probably not..
We get this alot around here, really ambitious ideas, but eventually life takes over again.
This project is akin to that of those scale model steam engines and such.. You also need alot of patience and skill...
Amalgamation of elements and integration of the components aren't an easy task even to veteran engineers.

Yeah I know it's true, I probably wont actually do anything for a while, or until I get a proper shop set up.:toetap05:
