Hi again, so for the go kart I'm building I'm having some trouble deciding what engine I should put on it. The 2 that I'm deciding on is a general purpose Chinese engine with 6.5hp. And a much faster new Chinese motorcycle engine. The 6.5hp engine will be about $200 with clutch and $270 with torque converter. The 250cc motorcycle engine will be about $450 with all components. I know that I will have a much higher top speed with motorcycle engine witch is why I might pay the extra buck. So I'm wondering what you guys would choose. Also I'm alittle confused about motorcycle engine, would you switch gears with a piece of metal connected to where the foot lever usually is? If I choose the general puprose engine is a torque converter worth the extra cash?

If you are getting the motor with TC, that is a good deal as the tc is worth about that new(Im assuming this is a new motor).
More importantly, what is this for?

The thing to remember here is the motorcycle engine will have more power than a Honda/clone, more than double (the 150cc are rated @13hp) so, not only will you have gears to get you moving & move faster, there's more power as well!

The downside is the bike engine is more involved & takes more work to set up but, once it's done, it should be a blast...

I have thought about this a lot myself. Besides gas and brakes, you gotta have a mechanism for clutch and shifter. 250CC is stupid powerful and fast for a motorcycle/dirt bike engine on a go kart. I wouldn't let a kid touch it with that engine on it.

A 6.5hp w/torque converter is a good balance of hill climbing power and gives a decent speed. All around less complicated to install and run.

There is a quote button right at the end of each dialog post box.

If that doesnt work, or dont want to quote but direct your comments to a specific person/people publicly, Just type there name(s) and your question..
