hi guys i got a 16 h.p kohler that wont take the gas. i let it warm up for 5 min like kohler said but as soon as i give it gas it pucks out i got to feed the gas peddle real slow. it only has one jet on the carb a fuel to air mix screw and its got a fixed main jet so i cant change that. its a WALBRO carb. i cleaned the carb and it looks fine. the fuel filter is new. i know there is a screen in the gas tank but it flows gas pretty good so i dont think that is the problem. it starts right up and idles like a champ

thanks guys u realy bin helpfull
on all my gokart problems even though some might be stupid

could it be the fuel pump if i take the fuel line off the carb and crank it it should flow gas pretty good right? what does a rebuild kit come with.only thing in the carb is the flot and the needle valve and one screw for the fuel to air mix. the motor is only got like 30 hours on it. its bin sitting on a shelf at my work thats why i cleaned the carb thinking its gumed up but like i said it looks good to me. i will check on a rebuild kit.

Problem with emissions carbs is that jets tend to go out of calibration when just the smallest amount of varnish builds up, especially when sitting around unused.
May not need a rebuild at all...given the low hours that engine has on it.
Go to a rebuild as a last resort.
Double check for correct float level.

Do you know how long the engine was sitting? Alot of times when an engine is stored and some people don't know any better, they don't drain the fuel tank or the bowl, or change the oil, ( a proper way to store an engine) and over time when the fuel sits in the bowl, it's causes a corrosion layer or varnish in the bowl, and when the engine is used again, and fresh gas enters the bowl, 9 times out of 10 some of the corrosion or varnish can break up and and plug up the needle valve and/or jet restricting the flow of fuel not completly in some cases but enough to cause a problem! Like Russ2251 said fuel injecter cleaner should clear things up! sometimes i use carb cleaner in a can and a small amout of shop air in the inlet of the carb. with the needle valve removed.

it was setting for about 3years and there was gas in it i could smell it smelled like varnish and i change the oil when i got it and the gas but failed to clean the fuel system so im going to try the carb and choke cleaner if that dont work i will go with injecter cleaner. i will double check the float level. the govener is still in it would that be a problem with the throtle responce. if should respond if i stuff the throtle right or could it be set up for low stedy r.p.m.s thats what my work used it for low and stedy

thanks a bunch guys

spend the money on a kit. disassemble the carb, dip it, spray it with b-12 carb cleaner, run a wire through every tiny hole you can find, spray it again and blow it out with the compressor and rebuild it. guarantee if you do it right it will fix your problem. it just has some varnish in a jet somewhere that your missing. very common issue especially with gas these days. mix in some seafoam with your gas and run the heck out of it and you should be good to go. kohler is an excellent engine and worth the repair.

sounds loike its not getting any pressure in the bowl.. to suck fuel through jet
when you close choke it aids in that pressure to do so..

try clogged jet, clogged vent. bad gasket..

Have you already double checked for an intake manifold leak?
(meyby loose nuts/bolts or a cracked gasket/0-ring)

Here's an quick easy way to check for intake leaks: With the engine idling, simply spray some carb cleaner (with the straw on) around all the intake mating surfaces. If you detect any increase in RPM as you spray an area, this would confirm that spot is sucking in air and causing a lean mixture issue.
