Hello my fellow DIY'ers.

Ok I want removed the govenors from 2 honda clones. What parts will I need to keep the engine's from blowing up, these will be street use motors and I want them to handle high rpms constantly. Thanks

lol there is nothing you can do to keep them from blowing up they are bound to eventually when tampered with thats why on this site we tell everyone do at your own risk if you want it to blow up do it by all means (it will only give you a couple mph more and maybe 1/2 hp more to take a risk like that the engines are built for longevity

To maximise longevity without a governor, either replace the conrod & flywheel with billet items or, if you're happy with 5000rpm, leave the stock 10lb valve springs in place, that way the valves will start to bounce at around 5000rpm

It's more than just a couple mph and a lot more than a 1/2hp........

Nah...... The stock flywheel is good for and used at 6000rpms.... And the connecting rod is gonna let go before the flywheel...... .. And the clutch will take 6-7000 rpm all day.... Desertdueler uses them on rotax engines at over 8000 rpms all day.....
Are your statements based on fact or assumption?

You won't gain any more hp just by removing the governor. Changing out the intake and exhaust will get you more power.

well that's not true at all I'm afraid.
just removing the governor and let the engine rev freely WILL result in more HP!
that is if you can rev up beyond the 3600 governed rpm under load.
it may not be much I admit that.. but it's still more than before ;)

As stated above... 'any' changes to an engine 'can' lead to a grenade incident(but normally dont if the operator has the common sense to remove pressure to the throttle at an unsafe rpm). What rpm range were you hoping to achieve? If 5K is the range, then remove governor and leave the factory springs(10lbs) in. The springs will 'act' as the next limiter of HIGH rpms(but still a chance to blow). If +5K-7k is wanted, replace conrod and flywheel w/ billit(as mentioned) and replace springs to 18lbs... at this point the carb becomes the next rpm limiter. Any higher in rpms and a guarenteed explosion shall occour(unless great amounts of block/head reinforcement is fabricated to it)... so I wont give 'those' suggestions.

Each of these upgrades come at a cost. From what Ive heard(at the local track) engines that are made to the 5-7K rpm w/ cams and other hp upgrades dont last but a few hours of running before a recommended rebuild... My suggestion is sink the $ into a high reving 'factory' engine(scooter/moped/atv)... something of the 2-cycle configuration... I hear a 125cc 2-stroker is the BOMB!!!! (not the blowup kinda bomb)
