Motor Controller Throttle?

Hi again,

I have a 36V 500W motor hooked up to a Chinese made motor controller, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to make a pedal throttle to work with it. I've heard that a Hall Effect sensor would work, but I was wondering where to get a sensor that could work, and how I would make a pedal out of it. I was also thinking of maybe using a 5K ohm sliding potentiometer connected to the pedal (I'll weld one together) via aircraft cable and a spring to pull it back. Any thoughts? Also, an aside, but for the motor controller, do I need a power switch that can handle 36V or is the controller wired such that it's only 12 or 24V running through the switch? (The batteries are on their way, otherwise I'd hook them up and just measure it.) Thanks!

I've seen these, but I was hoping to have a foot pedal rather than a hand throttle. Unless it's easy to take these apart to access the sensor? Alternatively, I've seen people simply strap a pedal to the twist throttle, but I was hoping to avoid that. Do you think the 5K ohm Pot will work in it's place?

well there are foot pedals out there.

I assume your controller expects a hall effect throttle, right?
three wire connection.. +, - and signal...
is that correct?

If yo I do think you can try a potentiometer too, but make sure it can be set to "off" ('unlimited' resistance)

Then it's a matter of connecting it in a way that it delivers 0-5V on one tab.. that should be connected to your signal line, the rest isn really important on other than wich way the poti turns ;)

Personally I'd suggest buying a pedal throttle
