monster moto 80 slow acceleration

picked up a used monster moto 80cc
it looks nice, good plastics, paint and nothing broken
even had a new rear tire recently put on

but it's acceleration is crazy slow. I am 250 pounds but I almost have to push off with my feet to get it going. and then it slowly works it's way up to top speed (probably about 25)

I tried cleaning the carb, no change. So I bought a new carb and just put that on, still the same.

I did notice that the chain get's hot, and that when you push the bike there is a small amount of drag. I have checked and double checked the brakes, chain alignment and slack adjustment. I can't see anything wrong with it. And since the motor will idle, and can achieve top speed (eventually) I don't think the motor is the problem.

Any ideas of things to check???

holy crap, just watched some utube vids of kids riding these things...had no idea that an 80cc would be that SLOW off the line. I've been playing with 50cc scooters (reverse trike go-kart and a couple of stripped down mini bike scooters) and they haul me around much better. I guess that is the advantage of having a CVT.

Can you put higher RPM springs on the clutch? If the motor could rev higher before the clutch engaged then that should help it off the line.

50cc is 2 stroke and make more power over a higher rev range. Your 80cc maybe makes 2.5hp and its highly restricted and really just dump that motor. Go out, get yourself a Predator 212 and start zipping around likes its nobodies business. The same 100$ it will cost for that motor would probably be the same 100$ it would cost to get any decent performance out of the 80cc.

well I bought it to get it running and then sell it.
My 50cc comparison was a 50cc 4 stroke scooter, but the difference is the CVT.
The monster motor can barely move me on grass, where a 50cc 4 stroke scooter would do just fine. But yesturday evening my 9yo son drove the monster moto and it did just fine with him on it. It still seems like the gearing is a bit tall, though it only does 25-30 on the top end. I think with the original restricted throttle linkage it would only have done 20-25. Clearly not made to haul a 250 pound adult. I might just hold onto it for my son to ride, as the slow acceleration makes it a good first bike for him. Though he still prefers the 50cc reverse trike go kart I built for him.
