IMG_5265.jpegI am starting this post now that i got the kart’s engine running.
As i said in my intro post, i flushed out the gas tank, checked to see it I had spark, check! Then i took apart the carb, cleaned it up and put in new gaskets, needle , float was fine. Then after it was back together, it fired up on the third pull!
I need to adjust the idle, but overall good process.

Thanks PartGuy! I have been told i have an obsession for having a nice work shop!
GW, the entire front end setup on this kart appears to be some sort of modification. The king pin angles are well over 90 degrees. I need to do a little disassembly on the front and see the overall condition. The left and right tie rod from the steering shaft both have some wild bends. I think they are from impacts with immovable objects!!! Lmao. As you can see it it up on a table right now. The wheels are off the ground. The steering mechanism turns greater to the left than it does to the right. A quick visual inspection does not reveal the root cause. More to come.

I spent some time this afternoon straightening the tie rods. They are not lasrr straight but make a whole world of difference in the steering. After some adjustment i can get equal amounts of turning on both left and right sides.

I noticed an issue with the rear axle:
The axle seems to be shifted to the right. So much that the brake drum cover is cutting into the frame. The more i looked i see some of the “axle pillow blocks” are in such positions as to be serving absolutely no purpose. See the ones i circles in the pics.
I was going to remove the chain, try and loosen all the set screws in the various “pillow blocks” and see it i can adjust the axle back to the left evenly.
Am i missing anything?

Thanks for the name clarification Danny! I was wondering about a piece of pipe , the correct ID, cut to correct length, to be used as spacers to keep the axle the the correct position.
Any recommended supplier for lock collars and axle parts? And i may get new straight front tie rods from the same source?
Thanks in advance!
... Steve
