Not much has been done for modified parts. Fairly simple if someone without much experience todo. This is my first electric kart build and will be raced with my team.
The goal was to make a budget kart from start to finish without exceeding $500 on the kart.
I picked up the running and driving Serengeti 24v solar wing gokart for $120 off of offer up app. And got to testing.. 24v 350watt motor with stock gearing pulled me along at 9mph .. stock specs claimed 12mph
Next I upped the power on stock speed controller and motor. 36v lithium power and it was moving a solid 14-16mph for about a half hour.. shortly after no response. Motor was fried..
I purchased the claimed 48v 1800w brushless motor / motor controller on eBay. Had to change chain and sprocket to match motor sprocket as I couldn't find a motor gear to match the stock drive components..
After some help here. ( Thanks Functional artist) I got it bench working and mounted the motor to the kart. The motor bracket has a wider flange and motor shaft was offset more then stock motor so 4 new holes were drilled thru the mount to allow for chain adjustment.
The battery was built out of lipo cells and Vruzend diy battery pack blocks so I didn't have to solder/ weld every connection.. the batteries were sourced on eBay and with my eBay bucks I paid 16 cents for the 100 of them (would of been $50 without using my eBay bucks)
I ended up using 91 cells. 13 in series and 7 paralleled . To give me a total of 17.5 ah. I'm currently letting my wife rip around on it and have been getting a 4volt drop on the battery after 15 minutes of riding.
I can ride the kart but I hang off each and every way possible since it's not made for 6'4" 280lb rider. But I can get on it and ease into it and ride it...
Top speed is 21mph checked multiple times by a garmin gps..
Gearing is a 9 tooth on the motor, 44 tooth on the drive wheel, and tires are 10" tall. With the given specs I should be around 27mph but can't surpass the 21mph so we definitely know the motor is not truthful about rpm..
