Sounds like an obvious answer to some but I'm a little on the fence. My current buggy has a rear swing arm set up for a GY6. I have no issue modding it to accept a 420. I like the Gy6 charging capabilities and modding potential. Problem with the 420 is that I can not seem to find a billet flywheel with magnets for battery charging. I like electric start and I do not want to charge a battery all the time. The GY6 can be upgraded to like a 18 pole stator. I'm not sure how well the 420 flywheel will hold up to high rpms even if upgraded to a genuine Honda gx390 one. My original plan was a modded 420 (mikuni carb, deleted gov., cam, and springs). I'm not sure what kind of power I can get out of one by keeping the rpms below 6,000. Has any one had experience with both of these engines to give a reasonable response? Like say a modded 420 vs. a 180/190cc big bor GY6? The GY6 puts out around 9 hp in stock form. Taida makes a 232 big bore GY6, 4 valve, water cooled engine with 27 hp to the crank and 19 to the rear wheels. BUT it's $2,500. So, I'm guessing I can get at least that from a 420 with out the need to get into the super high rpm range. Any input is appreciated.

ARC makes con rods and flywheel that will take the revs.
With the right mods, you could easily get 20 hp or more.
The big benefit of the 420 would be torque. There is no replacement for displacement when it comes to sheet grunt.

But as far as I know the flywheels do not have magnets for charging. Only the teeth for the flywheel but you have to recharge your battery with a charger. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I couldn't say on that one. Shoot them an email. I would guess that if the engine normally has a charging coil, the flywheels have magnets to run it, but I don't know

AFAIK ARC doesn't make any flywheels with magnets for charging.
