Some of you might remember awhile ago i went to see my father in Arizona while i was there my grandpa told me a story of when he used to own a mobile one gas station back when they used to pump the gas for you clean your windows ect.Well the station he owned had a mechanics shop where he also fixed cars and trucks at the time his buddy went to him for a tune up and he had just gotten mobile ones synthetic product that was new at the time so they added it to his buddy's truck at 35k miles .My grandpa told me his buddy did not come back for years to get his tune up till one day his buddy arrived at the shop asking for a tune up chuckling.Of course my grandpa asked why he was laughing he said nothing and went upon doing his thing my grandpa just went back about doing his thing as he drained the oil he noticed it was blacker then black and asked him when his last oil changed that is when he burst out laughing and said that he had not had his oil changed since my grandpa did it last.He told me he was shocked because his truck should be nothing but a box of parts by that time.He stuck his fingers in the oil and rubbed them together to find the oil was still slick.
He told me Always use Mobile one synthetic keeps the engine cooler adds life, performance ,is worth the money you pay for it . (Sorry for the really long story just wanted to share it with everyone)

Mobile One synthetic motor oil is seriously impressive stuff (I've used it in several vehicles over the year's), but it still need's to be changed at the same intervals that the vehicles MFR requires for warranty coverage.

You can not consider oil changes a thing of the past with synthetic oils. The base stock will remain; what you need is the additive package. That is what separates oil types and grades. And the additive package is what gets consumed over time while the engine runs.

If you think that you've had your last oil change because you switched, think again.........

Modern oil can go a lot longer than the 3-4k that people go by anymore. How much is practical is up for debate though.

Generally the type is much more important than brand. I've only found that synthetic oil is worth the price in tight water cooled engines or in extremely cold environments where standard causes too much drag, but doesn't have much extra longevity in anything with a wet clutch.

Anything air cooled I own gets 15W40 diesel oil if it'll take it. Pretty resistant to burning off from hot spots, and the detergents work well to handle blowby or off jetting. Plus it's super cheap.

My grandpa used to race a 100% authentic 1968 Shelby gt500 cobra and mobile one was his sponsor but he could not figure out why he was running to hot and had to change oil every race he said after every race he could put the oil in a cook pan and cut it with a butter knife so a fix to the problem was mobile ones synthetic oil that kept his engine cooler and gave him extra power .

I'm willing to bet something else was going on there. Changing your oil won't give you a practical change in heat assuming something isn't horribly wrong with it, especially on something with a radiator.

no but the synthetic works better against heat then regular oil does when put to extreme heat oil will thicken where synthetic oil is thinner based and resists heat better.

Yea most cars run a 10 000km oil change

About 6k miles

My mates 94 model toyota camry did 100 000 km (62k miles) before an oil change
On an engine with 300 000km (186k miles)
He thought that was the service interval

I had to put 4 lts of deiesl in it and run it for 1/2 an hr to get the oil out
So much gunk in the top end
Bust out the pressure washer and blow it out and use more deisel to flush out the water
Put it back together with the same seals
Still running 30k later

No cars can cop as much abuse as those older camrys

We get...(or used to anyway) .....Toyota engines over here that have never seen an oil change.....

I obviously don't know this for a fact.....but....I've been told....that in Japan an engine cannot be used for over 50,000 miles....so all those Toyota engines have to be replaced.....hence the influx of cheap used engines from Japan....

However.....since you have to get a new one after 50,000 miles....it stands to reason that folks in Japan wouldn't worry about oil changes as much as Americans....who can get 300,000+ out of them.....

The 3 months or 3000 mile oil change theory was developed by the Instant oil change places. For Profits. Nothing else. Every car manufacture will say in the manual 5000-6000 unless you are in extreme conditions. Diesels will dirty the oil in just a few miles of running, from all the particulate (the same black smoke crap people complain about from diesels) black oil isn't bad oil, in most case's. I have a 6.5 GMC suburban diesel, and I'm on a few forums for those engines, and most guys,, run 10k+ with synthetic oil, and longer with extra filtration units installed. Some also send the oil samples out for analysis,, this shows, what contaminates are in the oil and it's lubricating abilities, and change oil based on that. If your engine has any oil leaks,, with regular oil,, they WILL get worse with synthetic oil. I like to run synthetic in the winter,, as it's easier on all internal parts, and my engine will turn over/start faster with it. the just reg dino oil in the summer. Also switching back and forth is NOT an issue, as some will claim.

it depends... my current project bike, the oil should be changed every 4k miles says the service manual. and also you should check the oil level every 500 miles, because the bike naturally burns off oil, because its air cooled. 4 stroke engine.

but then again. on my Sv650, I've gone 8.5k miles without an oil change... and the oil was perfectly fine in color and thickness when it was removed, also the oil level stayed constant.

then you have something like the CB450, that with freshly honed walls, and new piston rings, the god **** thing burned oil like a two stroke. - could never figure that thing out!

The 3 month/3000 mile recommendation wasn't created by the quick change industry, it was a loose base line established by the auto industry back in the 1960's.And its a very relevant rule today.

For anyone who doesn't have the financial backup to replace an engine whenever they feel like it because they think they know better than any expert, a regular oil charge is extremely cheap insurance.

I really wish that the original owners of my truck had taken that view. First oil change after I got it running: 38 miles. Next oil change, 2900 miles later. 320 miles after that, spin a main bearing, do not pass go, do not collect $200 dollars. Current total milage on the truck, 180,000. On an engine legendary for clearing 300,000 with plenty of life left.

Just out of curiosity, just how many oil changes can you get out of the ~$3000 quote's I've gotten to replace this engine? I bet it will be money well spent.....

The oil mileage is not 100% set in stone it can be 6000 7000 8000 miles

Ok,, well I was born in 67,, So you appear to have a bit more history than me,, but people really starting getting 3000/3 months burned in their head, about the time Instant oil change places started popping up. and as modern engine manufacturing has improved, so have oil's. I won't change mine that often, as it's throwing good product away. When an oil analysis shows, it's still good, why trash it? I ain't no tree huggin hippie or nothing but I do like my money. I've had to replaced engines that were abused, and poorly manufactured.

All started because they want to make money 3000 miles make it so they make more and make it faster .
