Missing Part-Melting the Seat!

Engine is Howhitt 15cc on YerfDog buggy.

What is this part called that's missing off the engine cover?


Whatever it is, the "exhaust" from the engine is melting the back of our seat!

Where do I get another one and/or is there a DIY remedy in case I can't find a part?

You need to take panned out pic to see what's really happening...
If anything, a heat shield is missing...

How's this?

It spits out oil and I believe it's supposed to. There was a right-angle fitting on there attached to a rubber hose, sort of like a bleeder tube.

That's the best way I can describe it.

It's missing the Barb fitting that connects the breather tube to the valve cover. Why did you take the right angle fitting off? Or did it fall off?

Either way, it sounds like you answered your own question.

If you can't find a replacement, get a brass hose Barb fitting at the hardware store, and the appropriately sized tap to cut threads. Remove the valve cover to do it.

Is the valve cover broken there? There's so much crud stuck to it it's hard to tell. Could you wipe it off a bit and take another picture?

The fitting just fell out. It wasn't barbed. It wasn't threaded.

Don't know if it what the original factory part or not. . . .Just wondering why it wasn't secured better. Made me think previous owner just jury-rigged something there.

The valve cover is not broken. Kid's been riding it every day around our very dusty and weedy property.

Final questions ( I think)
1. Is the part necessary for the engine to "breath"?
2. If necessary, the breather tube just points down and residual oil just drains from there?
3. Maybe dumb question. . .I shouldn't just cap it once and for all?

Yes it is necessary.

No, don't cap it. That is where blowby gases escape. If you cap it you will blow out all your oil seals. Find a Barb fitting with the correct threads and replace it.
