Hello everyone, new member here who stumbled across ML-Toys conversion after I picked up the little cart at a garage sale for 20 dollars. I am going to post some build pics but it is going to pretty much be an exact copy of ML's build with the exception of a predator 3hp gas engine I picked up new in the box on craigslist for 60 dollars. Please excuse my horrible camera phone pictures.

I should also add that I was very fortunate and the person I purchased it from found the sides for it tucked away in the back of their garage.

Also as you can see from the pictures I have one very excited little 6 year old who can't wait for the little kart to be up and running.

please... PLEASE PLEASE... Lose the belt,

in case of a flip you do not want that cute little girl tied to the kart,
childrens necks are nowhere near capable of supporting the karts weight!

it's safer to be thrown out.

I have to agree. Lose the belt. I just finished a Razor buggy conversion to gas and... Yep my daughter rolled it on top of her. I was right there before she could yell help, I immediately rolled the kart off her. Had I left the stock Razor seat belt, it would have been much more difficult.
BTW she (and the kart) are perfectly fine.

Ouch.. glad she's okay chancer.

Maybe we should advice mounting rollbars behind children's heads on even the smallest least powerfull karts.

A helmet does not protect any neck, and while being lucky is great, being safe sounds much better

I have no idea why companies put on belts on kids karts in the first place,
that's simply insane, even for low power e-karts that's still not the best idea

Thanks for the replies, the seat belt wasn't even something I had given any thought to. I had though about making a roll bar for it just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I hope to have the weekend off from work so I can do a little work to it and maybe mock up the motor mount. I am a little concerned right now with my gearing but I am going to try to use what I have laying around 10 tooth centrifugal clutch and 48 tooth sprocket with a #41 chain. My goal is to get this thing going for less than $200 total. I will do my best to post pics along the way, even if they are just cell phone pics.

That gearing will not work. 4.8:1 on a 79cc predator. I don't know what ML used. But on mine I went approx. 11 or 12 to 1. Started at 6.5:1 and barely moved the kart.

Thanks for the reply. I am a little limited in sprocket size due to the cart only having ten inch tires. I may have to swap it out to a #35 chain and try 7.2 to 1.

Yes I had the same issue. Big #35 sprocket and small tires. but ended up with 13" tyres. and a jackshaft to get the gearing I wanted; Which on the gold kart since it was the 2nd attempt knowing I needed a JS anyway I used a 60 tooth sprocket which will work on 10" tires in the future.
BTW I think your $200 budget is reasonable having just done similar karts.

Mine ended up with 11 tooth clutch, 65 tooth sprocket and 10 inch tires.

Thanks for the info on gearing. I may try to go with a 60 tooth sprocket later. I was able to get a little work done to it today but it wasn't as much as I wanted to. The heat and humidity is one of the joys of living in Florida.

Coming along nicely. Here is a tip. Affordable go karts or AGK.com Actually sells performance parts for the 79cc predator. Not that you need performance parts but they have a few handy parts specifically for the 79cc. I bought a nice little air filter K&N style, and the throttle hookup, For 12 bucks it is a nice little kit of tid bits that just make it easy to connect the throttle cable. Part 2900 is for governor removed and relocated fuel tank. They also have part 2904 for stock tank location and governor intact. Their website is great a few tips and tricks how to's etc and calculators for gearing etc Check it out!
