Minibike build

So I got this minibike frame along with a half finished Gokart, both were kinda hacked together but I like the challenge. It used to have an engine mounted sideways and was drove through a lawnmower trans. Thinking of stuffing an 8 horse into it and adding a jack shaft. I'm gonna start with cutting extra unneeded metal



The swing arm was welded so that it was rigid. So that's what I started with.

That's a real Beaut.... However... The welding and structure won't handle it... Especially that 8hp...
The forks aren't for that bike... There is no support just a little bit on the end...

I am going to be doing a lot of cutting and bracing and who knows how much of the old frame will be left. And what is a sig?

Got most of the old paint off and I welded up all pinholes and other spots that needed. Now I'm gonna primer it and move to the bigger part... The frame.

Oh yea I forgot I had that as my signature, and my dad used to say that when I was a kid all the time. I'm not the greatest welder but there a lot better than what's on this bike now

I grinded and cut most of what I needed so I threw a layer of primer to show imperfections and protect from any more rust

What do you plan on for the forks?...
The welds "may" hold... But the triple trees aren't... And will most likely will fail when given the opertunity...

I'm gonna grind and reweld and weld on a peice of plate steel

Take a look at my bike.. And a few others here, google ect...
You'll notice the fork tubes are farther up the head tube and also another top plate is part of the assembly..
That reinforces the whole fork.....
Currently there is a cheap cast element with a few screws holding onto the ends of the fork tubes, the forks look like they came from a pocket bike.... Coupled with an 8hp motor...
That's going to break... No strength to hold it.. Welding more on ain't going to hold it to the bottom plate...

Until it breaks I'm going to keep going with my plans , thanks for the advice I will see if I can find or make a new front end

There.....fixed that for ya!

It'll most likely break when you sit on it... Let alone cracking the throttle of that motor...

Bc I have a swing arm do I have to run a jack shaft or can I run the chain looser with a tensioner?

It would be best to run the jack shaft, and close to the pivot (if not at the pivot point) as possible, as this wont derail the chain as much...

I have enough parts for a jackshaft!
Bearings flanges and shaft all came from an old snowmobile.

McK and the others are on target about the front end on that magilla.

Think about what will happen if you hit a pothole or depression in the ground at speed. The entire front end will fold under the bike.

Please wear a GoPro when you first ride that thang so that we can all enjoy the video of you catapulting over the handlebars.

The whole front end is from a moped so it should withstand enough abuse and all I ride on is gravel roads

Gravel roads would be more violent action than if it were on pavement.....
