I'm gonna start my son's mini jeep build this weekend, I bought 3 cub cadet riding mowers (the old one's with the driveshaft and clutch) and a 4wheeler front half for the a arms, disk brakes, spindles and steering. I'm hoping ...LOL to build a frame using these parts and build a sheet metal body resembling a jeep...Maybe a 3/4 scale.. I want to build this as a crawler not for speed so he can ride in the woods with us when we go jeeping. Here's some of the stuff I've aquired.

Something like this, with front suspension and rigid cub cadet rear. Using the 12 horse Coler and cub clutch setup.

cool! Luckily jeep bodys are real simple. i made mine with conduit that made up the framework and wraped it with aluminum sheet used for making gutter and riveted it on the backside. mine is mid engined with a 3 speed between your legs going to a peerless diff in the back.

Thanks guy's, it's cool to see everyone else's jeeps. Seems like the willy's body is definatly the way to go. Went to pick up the other 2 cub cadets tonight and they were gone. Seems the guy that had them stored for my brother sold them about a month ago to his buddy, along with alot of parts.... Soooo now I'm bummed and considering going another way. Maybe use the Kohler motor and clutch into a small 4spd tranny and down to a cut down car rear. Set it up on 4 link suspension in the rear with 4 wheeler coil overs... The rear on the cub is only 24 in wms to wms, my worry is gearing and getting that right.

sounds like you got the right plan . i would think with a 12 hp you wouldn't have much trouble with gearing as long as you didn't go too crazy on tire size , what trans are you planning on using?

Yes it's a mojave 250, and I have a s10 2wd 5 spd. without the bellhousing it's not very long. I'm gonna start the frame and mount the front suspension (because that's gonna dictate how wide It gets), then I'll make a decision on the drivetrain. Maybe just build spacers for rear axle and make it match the front.

Finally found another cub cadet and it has alot wider rear axle/ wheel offset. I'm gonna cut both cubs in half and weld them back together 18in longer than factory. Then extend the drive shaft and that should have my frame and drivetrain done. I also picked up a rack and pinion setup off a old ford garden tractor that I'm hoping to use. Clayton finished his last day of school on monday so it's time to start...
