Hi everybody im new to the forum, im looking for some info on gearing for my newest project. I am going to build a mini bike with a track from a snowblower, a ski on the front and a 13hp engine. The track is 7" wide, 10" tall and about 16" long. I am going to design a frame and build it at my work ( i'm a Engineer/CAD drafter by trade ). I'm shooting for around 45-50 mph, possibly more. not really for actual speed just track spin for power or deeper snow. I have been looking at a 17tooth clutch, but also have heard torque converters are the way to go. Can someone shine some light on me im a newby to building go carts and mini bikes. If it was a racing mower It would be a different story, haha Thanks - Jordan

What are you going to turn the snowblower track with? I wouldn't turn the plastic snow blower wheels that fast.

Its not a plastic wheel its all metal with a rubber track. There is a 5/8" keyed shaft coming out the center of the side of the track unit to mount a pulley or sprocket on.

There's a build log here somewhere where someone built something very similar to what you're describing, let me see if I can find it...

Edit: Half an hoour of searching & I can't find it, sorry; now that I've mentioned it, maybe someone else will...

No no, not the mini tank, the build I'm referring to is a mini snowmobile; I can't even remember the users name but, it was last winter & I don't remember seeing him in some time...

Thank you very much itsid for finding that thread! That's better than my design, I was going to use just one track and one ski, sort of like a dirtbike but the way that the one sprocket can utilize both tracks I think should work better and I can possibly use my old Polaris colt 175 motor IF there is enough space under there to put a motor and secondary clutch jackshaft set up.
