well guys
I have a school project to do and im looking for any good ideas
ok here is goes
I have to make a model tumbler
the tumbler has to be my own unique design and should have the following
a rear wheel propulsion unit
incorporate an automated door for easy access
and include a steering mechanism

presentation of the completed model should ensure that

all main operating features are clearly visible without dismantling
the longest dimension of the model can not exceed 300mm:smiley_omg:

and the electric power does not exceed 9 volts :ack2:

any ideas would be great

See if you can find RC 4wd trial and or RC Crawler images and videos for inspiration;

You should get a good idea how the steering can be set up with or without 4WD without making bulky transmissions.

Maybe look at some lego technic cars (clearly visible features, some really nice 'door' designs using air cylinders)

I think I have an idea, but this about your design, not mine;
so my best advise is: take a look around, reverse engineer what you like and combine it to match your needs :D

if I get a few ideas from yee guys I could change it to suit my preference

I'm sorry, you lost me on the way..
Now does it need to be your own design,
has to be my own unique design
or do you want us to have the design ideas
and just sell them as yours?

So, I can tell you what I'd do; maybe that's what you think of as 'ideas'.

First I'd find me whatever I need to propell and steer a small kart like this (hence the 'look at rc crawlers' advice)
Or the easy way:
buy a cheap and simple 1:24 RC car and get all the parts you'll need motor, controller servos etc.

Then I'd lay out the parts on a sheet of paper
(if you find Din A4 paper where you are, you'll pretty much have the perfect outline of the finished car it's jsut a few mm shorter than 300 and has the ideal ratio)

Now I'd draw my chassis on said paper to test a few things, and either cut it from clear acrylic myself, or let ponoko do it for me :D

Assemble, disassemle, remove bugs, reassemble, repeat...till done.

What?
you cannot use ready made controllers, motors, batteries and servos?
I doubt that ;)
I'd even think you are allowed to use wheels off a RC car.

Wait now.. a hot rod tumbler,
I think we have a mismatching understanding of what makes
a batman movie vehicle a tumbler.
I don't see any way to crossbread that with a hot rod *shrugs*
As I can't imagine what a leadsled humvee would look like ;)

please explain

You and me both. I thought what made that vehicle unique was it was driven laying down and had unique steering. (Or was that just a pod launched from the tumbler and the vehicle was the tumbler? )

what i mean about not being able to use parts off rc cars etc is that i can use batteries etc but cant use anything else and i have to make the wheels on a lathe thats not too hard

??????????????

No I don't!

There is ONLY ONE tumbler, and that IS the batman tumbler.
This is not a real car, it's a 'working' Movie Prop.
So, what makes it a tumbler is the fact that it was in the movie,
or if it's a replica, that it looks like the one in the movie.

This is a tumbler. Maybe he needs a self propelled version of this.
