is there anything wrong with milling a head with a belt sander that's mounted to a workbench? How much is a good amount to take off for an OHV engine? I haven't taken measurements yet, so I don't know what the max possible is.

Yes hard to maintain accuracy and flatness.....as far as how much...depends on a lot of variables....unique to each engine...mods....clearances....and fuel...to name a few....

IF I was gonna do this, I'd use a pane of glass (or glass kitchen table in my case:lolgoku:) and tape some fine grit wet-dry sandpaper to it.... With even, long strokes, sand away the amount you want. Every couple passes, turn the head 1/4 turn.....

Close....but that's not it.....the paper is allowed to float up....and will sand the edges more than the middle....a spray bottle of water will hold the paper flat to the glass and in place....

You can still sand in an angled flat surface though......
