I have a Porter Cable 2 stage upright compressor. Yesterday started it up and notice the oil is a milky brown in the level window. Started & ran fine. Last changed the oil @February/March-ish. Don't see it the last time I ran it, but it's gone unused for about a month.

Normally on a car, milky is coolant in the oil. Head gasket or crack... But on an air cool engine? Could it have been humidity + sitting?

Don't see any oil blowby anywhere, or obvoius leak. Should I check anything else while changing out the oil that could of caused this?

What kind of oil you running in it , automotive or compressor oil ?
Automotive oil will cause this compressor oil won't it doesn't hold water like automotive oil does.

Yeah....We need to clarify something right away.....Is this a gas powered compressor or an electric?

My questions appy to a gas engine....

If it's electric and you are talking about the compressor itself....then Cole's information applies....

It's an electric and I use only air compressor oil. There is some small oil leak at the base platform where it mounts to the tank. Head gasket and oil filler tub (vent hole) at the top of engine are clean/dry. So maybe the crankcase cover underneath the engine is leaking... but that wouldn't draw moisture if it is at the low point of the oil level, would it? You can see were the oil ran down the tank due to the tank is sweeting from the humidity, otherwise can't see were it's leaking (no visible drip) and it's not a lot of oil either...

Haven't check the air filter in awhile, but last time it was very clean...

I'll post a pic if need later...
