Hi guys, here's my dalema. I'm pondering the idea. Of running 6 inch Douglas rims and dirt track tires on my xrx. Im not sure its gonna work though. The sprocket guard is already low to the ground with the 8 inch stock rims Do you guys think this is gonna be an issue? Im use to building off road buggies and not what i call a street kart. Im also pondering the idea of throwing one of my 4 into 2 Cb 550 motors on it. Would like to keep it low and well fast!! Lol A mini Street car basically. Looking for honest feed back.

A cb550 motor is a heck of a lot of power for a go kart. They probably make somewhere around 50-60 hp?? They are also pretty heavy. Then you also have to worry about shift linkage, clutch. It would be pretty sweet if it was strong enough to handle the power though. Just a lot of work.

If your're considering TaoTao buggies as junk, I'll agree with you there but not so much with Trailmaster. They, along with Hammerhead, make great products in my opinion. Parts and support are readily available, they're well made and hold up well.
I couldn't pass up the deal on it. The guy said his kids flipped over in it and it started on fire. Said he had a bit of a hard time getting the kids out while it was on fire but manged to do so without any harm done to them thank you God. Said that was the last straw and it needed to go. I bought it fpr a $100 bones burned up. The motor was gone , seats, right rear rim and the axel on the right side was also messed up. I already had a 212 from my Manco silverfox go kart the axel, rims and bearing carriers. I already bought a seat, clutch and chain and put it all together and its up and running and now what i mentioned above crossed my mind lol.

Ok, well, you're entitled to opinions too, and I'll respect that.
It's just that I don't see Trailmaster parts around a lot of the time.
Guess I'm looking in the wrong places.

Seeing that it flipped I am not surprised. Looks like it was designed to flip over regularly. Short, stubby, high ground clearance and high center of gravity and/or all that weight up high. Yikes.
Hellion you named off a couple reasons why id like to go with smaller wider tires. Bring that center of gravity lower to the ground. Plus I've done some searchig for a custom TM mid size custom kart and haven't come across one yet. Nothing wrong with one of a kind in my opinion

The sprocket wouldn't necessarily be a problem with ground clearance.
By downgrading the tires to a smaller diameter, you effectively get a lower gear ratio, you you could probably get away with a smaller axle sprocket.
Don't get carried away though, it's still very possible to gear too high!

What's the chain pitch? That helps determine the sprocket diameter.
but for reference, my yard kart a #35 chain(3/8" between teeth) 66 tooth sprocket.
My rear tires are 13/5x6, and the sprocket has at least several inches of clearance.
Although I am geared a bit high TBH.

Well ok then that was easy lol my apologies on never hearing the term. Finally got to take it out for a first test ride today aftet spending a week cleaning the rust out of the tank. Added a fuel filter and now its running like a champ. Used a speed app to see about where i was at as far as speed goes. Im 5'8 230 pounds and hit 32 mph before i ran out road. Just running a stock 212cc predator motor with governor removed
