makeshift gear lever done for the time being, waiting on diaphragm and front wheel nuts as I had none out of the millions of random nuts and bolts I have.. Might not bother with an E start engine now its actually pretty easy to kick over just kick it facing backwards rather than the normal way

picked up a cheap steering wheel £10 with boss, started making a small dash/enclosure for switches etc, not finished in photo..

and finally started working on the disc brake, I found a close to perfect match from an old moped, the go kart hub pcd is 58mm and the disc already had the same 3 stud pattern but 60-62mm pcd but a tiny bit of grinding and it fits great!

The disc was 160mm dia and I tried to cut it down as round as I could to 140mm, its sloppy but good enough

now to mount the caliper and master cylinder

Mounted the brake caliper and master cylinder, its cable operated from the foot pedal as there's not enough room for a push rod system but feels very nice and plush.

I've bled the brake over and over and had no air bubbles comes through and whilst the brake feels firm the pads only barely bite the disc

if anyone has any advice that would be great

New pads an rotors need to seat in together. Just get them real hot a couple of times and they should start working better.

One thing I did notice however, if I pump the brake the pistons don't continually close up until the pads are pushed together tight, they only move around 2mm and then regress back.

Is this normal? on most working hydraulic brakes if the master is continually pumped without a disc between the pads, the pistons will keep expanding untill the pads are closed up tight

whilst bleeding however, a very healthy amount of brake fluid is being pumped out of the caliper bleed nipple..

You may need a fuel return line. tee off the line from pump to carb & run line back to tank...some a those pumps put out a LOT of volume.....old dog

Yeah I tried that after breaking two diaphragms, I then replaced it with a genuine mikuni diaphragm and put a T junction for fuel return and worked a charm

update.

gusseted the frame for a bit more strength and hastily painted it, came out pretty good, not after a perfect finish as its going to get beaten up anyway, still other bits to paint.

rebuilt and adjusted the steering column from a solid bar as the old one was a mock up.. no more understeer!

started working on proper gear shifter linkage but needs some tinkering as its a bit tight atm

got the rev limiter working for a basic launch control and it bloody needs it cos i'm an idiot and stuck my yx140 lump in it! acceleration is just crazy and power wheelies all day I hate the look of wheelie bars but may need one for it.

close to being "finished" but I'm sure there will be plenty of mods and improvements yet.

Also rigged up a smoke system for fun in the field (12v pump injecting diesel into the exhaust)

99% there, some small things to tidy like trimming cables and some bolts that are a little too long etc..

re configured the gear selector push rod system, works a treat now, very positive feel

also learned hammerite isn't fuel proof, not that I checked, just presumed oh well its going to get dirty anyway...

needs an oil change and rear brake bled again

sorry about all these cramped shed photos, will get some better pics outside soon, hopefully all these shots will help anyone else building something similar as I probably couldn't have done it without other inspiration from the web

Thanks bud, in the video it actually had a fair bit of understeer, but lengthened the arm on the steering column which has massively improved it, The extra weight over the front wheels helps them grip too, doesn't understeer at all now unless you give it too much throttle and the fronts lift off of course
