Hi all,

I have some good news.

My name is Tim, and I have been working with Robert from an administrative perspective. My involvement with Robert was mainly in regard to a different forum, and in that process, have now been helping out with the rest of his projects.

What happened?
Robert has been sick. His server filled up. Roughly 4 days ago, Robert initiated a server transfer with his hosting company to increase the storage. Fine. But in that process, the IP address for the server changed, and the domains he had pointing to forums no longer pointed to the right IP address. Last night I was able to get into his Cloudflare account to point these IP addresses to the correct server.

Will I be around going forward?
This message is literally my first time landing here. It looks like there are issues with spammers and nobody else having administrator access? Can someone trusted here please comment below with what you need from me? I can help in the short term, but really Robert should be the one doing this in the future once he's fully recovered.

Apologies for the interruptions. The forum from a technical standpoint should be solid now.

Thank you,

Tim

Best wishes to Robert for a speedy recovery!

I don't think I could recommend anyone to have administrator privileges but there could be more moderators added to the current lineup to help with the spammers. We do have a massive problem with spammers and perhaps the easy access to the forum is to blame? No waiting period, no approval process?

Thanks for all your efforts and this is no interruption at all.

I don't think I could recommend anyone to have administrator privileges but there could be 3 (or more moderators) from the current crop of active forum members perhaps. People with moderator permissions should be able to clean up spam. I see four moderators currently. Should they remain moderators and who should be added?

anderkart
itsid
landuse
RobertD

I suppose I could require new registrations to be approved by a moderator if you all want. I don't do this on my other forums though. In my experience, XenForo does a pretty good job of catching that stuff. This is an outdated version of XenForo though, or Robert could have that stuff turned off.

Landuse and Anderkart are the two mods that have been doing their best cleaning up spam. Landuse lives out in South Africa, so he's only on when he can be. Itsid lives out in Germany, but hasn't been on here in a bit. RobertD is the Robert you've been working with.

It's nice that we now have a line of communication for the time being, hopefully Robert can make a full recovery.

The error message when we post has been a problem for at least a solid month, possibly longer.

I know one error I get, is when I click on my profile picture at the top of the forum, and I try to click on the 'Your Content' tab, it pops up with Server error occurred, please try again later.

Not a high priority problem, but just one to highlight to be addressed at some point.

I get this error trying to use the search function.

I get this error when I try to click on someone's profile or their username. I don't have permission.

It is probably the same for many other actions one tries to perform on this site.

Not any error and I'm not sure if it was done on purpose, but I know that when Robert went from vBulletin to XenoForo, we could no longer visit each members personal page on here. Not a big deal, just something to note. Not sure if Robert left it like that or forgot to allow permissions to do that. That's a bottom of the barrel thing to address.

Hope his health improves. Good on him for keeping the forums up through all this. Noticed the search function fixed sweet!
Edit: No error message after clicking post. Even better! No front page spam! Good for newer members looking for a non spam site to join. Magnificent!
