I have a manco dingo with a 8 hp off brand motor. I believe it had the wrong belt on it as it had no pull with the teeth down. Just for the fun of it I fliped the belt to teeth up and it had a ton of pulling power. But the belt melted. Where do I get a belt and is there any way to get rid of the stupid belt and use a clutch? The chain on there should be enough to pull this thing anywhere and I would rather use that as a source of power and not a belt that I will surly keep melting.

so your kart uses a torque converter? if so you just burnt up a $30 belt. There is absolutely no way a clutch is going to be as good as a TC.

Its a torque converter, it shouldnt be slipping, there must be something stuck on yours. You cant get a clutch like your quad on a go kart without putting an actual quad engine in the kart.

Well for one you put it on backwards. So it could only have a little bit of wear on it. Unlike the edge with the toothed sides. Which has alot of wear points.
no. It wouldnt even pull a small hill or take off on flat ground without the belt not biting very good. I could put it in the back of my truck and hold the rear and gas it ans be able to stand there and hold it in place. (teeth down) Then I switched it (teeth up) and it pulled me into the back of the truck. I dont think it was the right belt. but I also dont think its going to ever pull hills very well either. I may just get rid of it

Well buy another belt. Belts wear out over time, so maybe it was just worn really bad. Clutches cost about the same as belts.

I agree, plus torque converters are over $150
I think that the reason why is because when we get said TC used the person before didn't take care of it and now it is a pita to get working correctly. I am fighting a similar problem and I am still

If the TC burns up, and there's nothing wrong with it, then a clutch will burn up 10x as badly, all else being the same (gearing). Also it will be much slower accelerating and lower top speed.

You can't really get a manual clutch for an industrial engine, unless you fab up a belt clutch like I did, or a completely custom clutch similar to that on a car.
If you want a real clutch you need a motorcycle engine (which is a double bonus because you get SO much more power and different gears)
