So for my Indy Kart/dirt bike engine project I am still looking for a bike to pop up on craigslist!

Today I found this one, its old but its a 2 stroke so it should run for another 250 billion years right? And I would imagine that a 125cc 2 stroke would get me moving pretty quickly!

What does everyone think? He said he would give it to me for $300 plus I have an unopened ipod touch and im sure I could get him down some more, after all, it is 35 years old!

$300? That seems kinda excessive, but then again, I don't know what kind of engine. Should get some details about it, I'm sure Russ'll chime in about it if you can get some info.

yeah, all I know is its a 125cc Yamaha MX125. He said he thinks someone had bored it out cause it runs smooth.

Another thing is I think its almost starting to be one of those "Classic" bikes that you could restore and make some $$$ off of it.

If he tells you this, it's time to look elsewhere. I will only deal with 'virgin' stuff. He is clearly unsure (as in 'thinks') of it's history which is good enough reason for me to avoid it.
I would only pay $300 if I desperately needed the parts.

Hmm, well I desperately need the parts... but I dont desperately need THOSE particular parts. I will wait over the next few days and see what pops up, but if nothing else does, then I might go for it.

Its been about 3 weeks now and I havnt been able to find anything! grrr!!!

Thats what Im thinking now, engines tend to run rougher when bored out because the heavier piston screws up already poor balance.

Well I will keep looking for some more bikes! I dont know that much about them (Other than the fact that I want a Sazuki DR-650 to take back and forth to work and the desert!)

So I will keep looking for some bikes and when I come across one that is in my price range I will post it and ask you very fine gentlemen what you all think! Im still looking for either a 125cc 2 stroke or a 250cc 4 stroke.

Thanks for everyones input!

Took me 2 years to find a 4 decades old Clinton 2 cycle kart engine. Now I have two. Well worth the wait.

Thomas Edison was a pimp?

Nah, but I have done everything else to the frame that I can and I want to get it painted soon and ride it! but i need the engine mounts built first and I cant to that till I gots me an engine! And I am not looking for a specific engine, and I cant wait for 2 years. I dont really need the best of the best, I just want one that runs and I can shift it for now. If I upgrade later then Ill do that!

Its called a DR because you should have a Dr. around when riding it.

Geez, even a 600 is going to be stupid-fast on a kart. I live in AJ, and there's this guy down the street that we call "TweakerGuy", (He's the one who sold me that kart with the still-in-the-box HF motor/ see Assburger's creations) and I'll see if he has any motors suitable for you. I keep forgetting that you're in the neighborhood.

Yeah thx Jerry! See if he's got anything!

And ya, I would get that engine. Even a 600 is kill yourself fast on a bike! (compared to your average car) I would get it but its a little much for me to be spending on just a go kart. I dont even have that many places to ride it and I have school and ****. I actually got my tuition paid for but there are still many other costs!
