Master Torque replacement

I have a Subaru Robin ex27. The clutch is mounted teeth toward engine. The old clutch had set screws and was tight on the shaft. The new Hilliard Extreme Duty clutch has no set screws and slides easily by hand on shaft and there is nothing really to stop the teeth part of clutch from touching the engine. Am I missing something? Also the engine wouldn't start until I took the foam air filter out and sprayed a small amount of carb. cleaner in carb. Runs fine without the cover just plain carb but doesn't want to run with cover on..any suggestions?

Your output shaft should have a lip that steps-up to a larger diameter like this pic below. That step is actually part of the crankshaft, its not the side of the engine. That step should act as a stop to keep your clutch from sliding on far enough so its teeth touch the side of the engine.

My shaft dosent have a lip like that..the clutch teeth can be pushed all the way to the right.

Do you have any pics of the shaft? Am I coreect in assuming that the air filter is stock?

Air filter is stock, this is the pic. I don't have a lip but some kind of welded monstrousity, however I think with a 3/4 snap ring between the brass and the brown uneven"lip" I can make it work.

Got the clutch on, outter part is not free spinning but inner part doesn't engage til engine is reved. I notice however the clutch and shaft make a definite up and down shudder..I think the shaft is warped. So what would be a good replacement engine? Predator?

Well I got the clutch in, got the chain all sized and link repaired, cleaned the carb out and put in new air filter. Cranked it up and it made it about 60 feet before the clutch burned slap up! I mean smoke everywhere! Any thoughts? Jeep Kart too heavy for clutch? Where would I look to convert it to something else and what should I convert it to besides chain and clutch?

Before just putting another clutch on, we need to figure out why your previous one failed. How many teeth on the clutch, and how many on the axle? What is the rear tire diameter in inches? How large and heavy is the kart? Put up a few pics if you can.

I bought the hilliard heavy duty clutch thinking it would last. It burned up in about 30 seconds. No govener on engine and it was throttled wide open. Clutch was engaged but hardly any take off..maybe got up to 3mph before smoking.

Yeah- I think you're geared to steep for what you have. Under the circumstances, I would suggest a CVT.

Does a CVT still include a clutch and chain? I don't have a lot of space as you can see in the picture..

Look into a Comet Tav 2. It oughta suit the bill nicely.

Get a 30 series (Comet Tav2). It's all self contained. And CVT's do not require a separate centrifugal clutch, it is a built-in function of the CVT. The whole unit bolts directly to your engine, and a chain runs from the back side of it to your axle. Nothing else required.
