Ok so my friend has this old go kart.. Its a 2 speed. No reverse just 2 speed forward with a clutch pedal an a shifter to the right of the seat.. I was wanting to do this but idk how... I would like to have 4 or 5 speed.. But i want manual transmission like have a clutch pedal.. Any ideas how? Reverse would be nice too...

The easiest is to buy a gear box and bolt it on

But that is very expensive

Anoughter method is to install the back axle from a ride on mower

But this involves a fair bit of fab work and maybe a new engine
The best way is to swap your engine for a motorbike engine

But this way depends on your fab skills as welding is involed that way

EDIT

as for reverse
well the mower trans should have reverse as will the purchased gear box

but the motorbike engine wont unless it is a utility quad
(race quads dont always)

well said. my 3 wheeler had reverse but it was shaft drive. so youd have to use the whole rear end

id say motorbike engine is the best way. or a dirtbike engine. Same style as a shifter kart. i have a similar project, and im using a dirtbike engine with cluth and 5 gears.

you have to have a proper gear ratio or you can over rev it even in high gear. don't see why it would have ruined the cdi though.
