Hey guys im working on a manco restoration. my plans for the kart is to buy a 5.5 honda. I was gonna restore the b&s 3.5 hp engine but it would have cost more than it is for the 5.5 honda. Well i got some pics of the kart when i first got it after that when its striped then sand basted and primed. Next pic will be of it painted and by then I will hopefully have the engine. Tell me what you guys think so far and any ideas for the kart. O and I almost forgot my dad offer to pick up some krylon spray paint from his job for my kart would it look good and last or would it just chip off in the first month? :cornut:

Great kart!

The keys to a successful paint job basically boil down to a few points-

*Preparation- carefully remove all loose rust/crud, peeling paint, etc. Best to sand rust down to bare metal, lightly scuff sand remaining good paint. Degrease the frame thoroughly and rinse completely. Prime as according to the directions of the paint you are finishing with.

*Follow the directions regarding prep, priming, recoat times etc.

*Be patient- trying to save an hour somewhere likely will result in a lousy paint job.

*Remember the difference between "dry" and "cured". Just because you can touch it without getting your finger sticky (LOL), does NOT mean it's ready to reassemble and thrash on. It'll be awhile before it has any durability.

i suggest taking the whole thing to bare metal, use an angle grinder and wire wheel, remove all the paint and hang it up, get 3 cans of primer, and 3 of paint, make sure to get everything primed, but not over primed, then paint, make sure to be through, patience is the key to a nice paint job, after one coat, let it sit an hour, do multiple coats, then when youve done your last coat, let it dry for five hours, then reassemble,

I agree, and not. Don't assume an hour for the recoat schedule. Depends on the product. Read the label. As for reassembling after 5 hours- I suggest 24 hours at the very least. The material will still be quite soft after 5 hours- and you KNOW the wrench is gonna slip, or you'll bang the ratchet handle off something.

One other tip- multiple very light coats will have much better results than 1 or 2 heavy coats. Fog the parts 3 or 4 times, then lay it on wet for the final coat.

For paint to last, clean all the paint with chemical paint stripper, than wash very well, and remove all the rust and corrosion with acid, or if you can a good sand blast machine. Apply a good epoxy primer, then scotch brite to scratch the primer for apply a good finish color (Acrylic). It will last forever. That is what I'm going to do in mine.

Guys the color you see right now on the cart is the primer. When they sand blasted it at my dads job they put on 3 coats of that green primer for me. Then let it set over the weekend

The self etching primer I use is the same color as the primer they sprayed on your kart. I'd say that is what they used. Either way you will be ok, the self etching primer will stick to the metal better.

You got a Manco w/4 good rims and the sprocket adapter - you're already ahead! I have a blast w/my Manco, you will too. If you need any Manco advice go to Blaz, he saved me a ton of trouble rebuilding mine.
