Picked up a Manco Quester tonight. Needs a little love, but appears to be in pretty good shape. I'm not at all familiar with these, but it has a 8hp Briggs and what appears to be a 40 series torque converter on it. I'll know a little more when I have some light and time. I will post my progress and it anybody has any experience with these feel free to chime in.

Well, pulled the engine this afternoon to closer inspect everything. Surprisingly nothing is seized up in the drive train, good amount of surface rust though. Should be able to sand off that rust and then I'll see if everything is operable. The Briggs is in kind of rough shape , I'll see what I can do with it but it has seen better days. If for some reason I can't bring that one back to health I think I'll be looking into a 301 predator.

A red scotchbrite pad would do quite well for the sheaves...
As for the motor, the Briggs are pretty robust... Chances are it just needs a carb clean. Or one could put a clone carb on it and Bronda it...

Started cleaning up the clutches today. Trying the kart fab wire brush trick, is working well thus far. Hopefully the very light pitting I can sand out after I work through the last of this rust. Everything looks in decent condition after getting the rust and grime off; roller weights are nice without flat spots, ramps and buttons still looking decent, springs all seem good (without having experience with the weight of 40 series springs that is).
