im trying to remove the whole rear axle off the kart before painting. How to I get the axle off? There are 2 wheel bearings on the axle that bolt to the frame. I unbolted those thinking whole whole axle would unmount but it wont budge.... I dont see anything else holding the bearings/axle to the frame.

Ok I got the motor in. A couple slight problems though... even without the throttle engaged the kart wants to roll slightly on its own just under idle. Its not much but I would prefer it to be completely stopped until the gas pedal is pressed. I cant figure out whats causing it to roll... the throttle is completely pulled back on the motor.

Another thing... what are you guys doing for some make shift pedal extensions? I need about 6 inch extensions for my 6 year old. I thought he was big enough for it but I guessed wrong.

A friend of mine said I might have the wrong belt. The belt thats on there is a Gates PL20507 669x18x30... It has a 30 series comet torque converter.

Also the torque converter and drive pulley are not lined up perfectly. They are off center from each other about 1/8 of an inch or less... would that make a huge difference?

Turning down the idle did the trick. I did go ahead and order the correct belt for this series torque converter just in case that makes a difference. Im trying to adjust the brakes now... seems like they dont want to stop the kart fast enough even going slow. Factory manco disk brake. I will try and adjust it as much as possible but if I cant improve it I think I might have to buy a new caliper...

I got tired of messing with the stock caliper. Its pretty old and worn out looking so I just ordered a new one along with a new brake pedal spring because the one I have also seems worn out and unable to hold much tension. I bought a factory manco kill switch that mounts in the steering wheel that I still need to hook up. Its almost 100% complete. I hope my step son likes it :)

Awesome! Seems like the rust on the pulleys might be creating unwanted friction on the belt at idle too

Ok I finished the kart today. The new brake assembly works perfect. The new "correct" belt made a huge difference. This thing is fast and runs smooth. I can't wait to give it to my stepson for his birthday next week. He has no idea I have been working on this for him. I can't thank everybody enough for helping me. Much appreciation.

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but it'd be great to hear how well the kart was received and maybe see an after-action report and some photos.

Was your son able to drive it ok? What a thrill to have one for a birthday present...
