Manco Interceptor Rebuild

Hey All,
Earlier this summer, I posted a few threads about a Manco Interceptor rebuild. Many of you provided advice, for which my daughters and I are grateful!

We've been working on the project throughout the summer in our free time.

We stripped it down to the frame and repainted it, while trying to salvage as much of the original decals as possible.

New Predator 212. New clutch. New chains. New tires.

With the price of the kart itself included, we have $340 invested. Worth it??? HECK yea!

To hear your kids giggle with pure delight as they buzz around the yard makes it priceless!

Nice. How does it drive?

One thing: the seat back is in the way, so remove the three screws holding on the recoil starter, “clock“ it til the T handle is pointing at 9 or 10 o’clock (or your preference), reinstall the screws and voila. This way you’re not chafing the rope on the ferrule hole in the housing and adding extra friction you don’t need. The “212cc” logo will now be sideways or upside down but that’s the way we like it.

You may remove all the ugly white warning stickers too. Makes the engine look cleaner.

One of the stickers says check the oil level if it stalls. Did you disconnect the low oil sensor?

Of course you can refine and tweak the kart as you go along. On that note, the looped throttle cable hanging out the back could get snagged on a tree branch. Just something to think about.

Great job dad. Like you said " Priceless ". Now start on one for your other daughter.
Also the advice by Hellion about the starter rope, and the throttle cable are spot on.

Thanks! Drove really well on the 'test drive'. Yes, that throttle cable is/was an issue. I already shortened it/tucked it away.

I saw a few people recommend rotating the pull cord, but it's nowhere close to the seat back. I checked that a few times.

It did stall once, but I assumed it was 'breaking in'. Advice on disconnecting it??

So you pull the rope toward the front of the kart by your daughter‘s right elbow (in the pic)? I guess there’s room there angled away from the seat. I just always have it pointed at the rear where I normally stand for the starting procedure or when I’m also turning on the fuel and doing the choke on/choke off. Saves me from doing a dance I guess.

Plenty of threads on disabling the low oil sensor which can annoyingly go off as you take a turn because the oil in the sump swishes sideways. Some folks disconnect the wire lickety split and some go inside and take it out, thinking the bulk of the sensor is taking away precious oil capacity or that it’s superfluous junk. They also take that time to remove the governor….
