I assume the chain will have some markings on it?

Typically, a chain is stamped on each side plate or every other plate. It will have "35" if it is #35 chain but it is possible it is unmarked. I bet it's #35 but it pays to be sure.

Bearing are common to rust out. Replace them

Check the bearings if you haven't tossed them in the bin yet. Pry up the seal with a X-acto knife blade or a sharp pick and inspect the ball bearings. If toast, they will likely be dry, rusty, rough and noisy.

On new bearings, do the same. Pry up the seal with a sharp pick or a thin blade and inspect; be careful not to damage the seal. New bearings may not have enough grease inside so add a quality grease up flush to the edge of the bearing and then put the seal back on. To add an extra level of protection, you could smear a thin layer of grease over the top of the seal on both sides to give it a measure of water resistance.

The bearings are somewhat serviceable this way and can last a lot longer than normal.
