Hello all. I got a late '90's manco dingo two seater that originally came with a 8hp tecumseh motor and comet 40 setup. The motor is bad. I want to put a predator 13hp motor in it. I went through the whole kart, tightening and greasing. Old motor is out and ready for the predator engine. I got a new belt and chain. Besides making new holes for the engine to mount up. Is there anything else I'm going to have problem with? I know I will have to fab up a throttle linkage for the motor, anyone have pics of a setup I can make from my local hardware store? Any other issues you guys for see? Thanks again!!!

You'll also need new motor mounting points, because that's a big motor, but it depends on how big your current mounting points are, any pics

The stock engine mount is 10.5x6.5, I will drill new holes. I looked at the mounting holes for the new motor and I can use my stock mount, but drill new holes.

My uncle had several old riding mowers in the back so I grabbed a battery mount and cover off a old snapper. Painted motor mount and battery tray. Post pics later. Everything seems to be working out, just putting a lot of thought into this.

I had the red version of this that had an 11 hp tecumseh electric start. I replaced it with a gx390. There is apot just in front of the engine jackshaft for a small mower battery.

One thing I had to watch out for was the chain clearing the bottom of the engine. block. Wasn't a big deal if you just think through it when positioning the jackshaft sprocket.

Also if you are one that pays attention to detail, you could re-route the wiring from the electric start to a little box below the steering wheel. There may already be a piece of steel there for you to bolt a keystart to.

That's the plan gran pann. I figured that was the spot for a battery version. I drilled that yesterday. I was thinking about the key start too. Thanks

Looks good! I have a late 90s Manco Dingo single seater that came with a 8hp briggs, swapped that piece of crap out for a genuine GX390 13hp, best decision i ever made! so much fun!

Nice!!! I extended the lines for the key start, and the motor won't shut off when I turn the key too off lol, I'm stumped. Any ideas?

I eliminated the battery, yea it's nice and all. But I was thinking since it doesn't charge it and I can't run lights. Too heck with it. So I eliminated the start and went back with the kill switch on the steering wheel. It works great keeping it simple. Now I need to get a stiffer return spring so it doesn't idle so high. I appreciate all the help guys. I also turned the pull start so it faces towards the back of the go kart. I'm more used to 3 wheelers lol

:idea2: Hey Lookey here..... Put that battery back in its place and secure it down. Now getcha self some 10-12 gauge wire, some connectors and, o yeah..... The lights!
Wire up a simple harness that will have one short ground, to the frame. Then a long one, with a Y at the end, one for each light lead.
Ok, so by now, you're think..... Duhhh, I already know thissss but I still can't charge the battery......
Well, yes you can.... Let me ask you, the majority of your riding is done in the day, right? I can hear your brain rattling "yes" , in unison with mine. Ok, so go down to harbor freight ,or where ever , and buy a couple of those plug in solar chargers, for your car. And one of them fancy $7 battery tenders.... Take the solar chargers and cut the plugs off, and wire them together (not sure if in a series or parallel matters here) so you have a negative plug and a positive. A good tip is to always use opposite type plugs for + & -, like a male lead + and female - . This way, later down the road, if you take it apart, you will know how it goes, cause it can only plug in one way. :backtotopic:
The solar chargers charge during the day. When not in use, the battery tender will keep battery at peak. If you use some LEDs, the battery should last for quite a bit of night time fun......
