Manco Dingo Question

Hi guys-

Does a Dingo have a live axle? Or does it have some sort of diff? I looked at an exploded parts diagram and its tough to tell. It has something called "Vari Hub" but I am not sure what that is. I drove a kart tonight with a 10hp engine and a live axle, and it wouldn't turn worth a darn it just pushes through the turns it was almost hard to drive and not much fun. It also had a bent axle so I passed on it. I posted a few photos of it on here but they have been taken down already. The axles look pretty universal.

When you say hard to turn do you mean you turn but it goes straight? if so it ithier doesnt have a diff or the diff is frozzen i would say.

Live Axle Kart

Yes that exactly what I mean it just wants to go straight with the front wheels turned. The owner claims that he puts weights in the front to help it turn because of the plowing.

It could be that the kart had really horrible steering geometry, like no ackerman.

I have just had a look at a number of parts diagrams for several dingos, and all of them are fixed axle karts, or one wheel drive. It could be that the one you are talking about had a live axle conversion done with a diff installed.

A diff works well on street riding, but badly on offroad. (Please correct me if I got that the wrong way round).

Are you saying that they were taken down off the remote server you linked to, or that they were removed here. If you had posted them here they would not have been removed. If you had linked to an external source, and they were removed there, then the thread will just have a red X or something like that

The photos were removed because I didn't post them as thumb nails, and I posted more photos in the Kart ID section. The ones in the ID section were taken down because that section is for people who KNOW what their karts are, not wondering what they are. I had a rough few days on here.......lol

If you are talking about THIS thread, your pics are still there. I would never delete peoples pics. The point of this forum is to gather information, and pics speak a 1000 words. The only thing that will be done is make your pics clickable thumbnails (like they are now in the above post).

You also have THIS thread where your pics are also still visible. You have made only one other thread where you never posted pics

Pics will not be deleted because they have been posted in a certain way

No I wasn't implying that it was done in a malicous way, only that they were taken down in the way that I posted them. I am still looking at the steering geometery on this kart I'll post what I find.

Right now it just wants to go straight, and push the front wheels.

From what I understand, a vari-hub is pretty much just a hub but, due to it's construction, it grabs the axle tighter than a standard solid hub. you do have a solid, live axle.

IIRC, dingos do not have ackermann steering; the steering arms are 90* to the spindle, which if fine for low powered engines but, with a 10hp, you'll be pushing it a lot harder.

Try adjusting your spindles with ackermann, it should improve your steering immensely.

I don't own a welder and dont want to rebuild the steering to make everything in line with the center of the rear axle.

No. For the purpose of this discussion, toe in/out is not related to ackermann. the wheels need to be aligned with toe in; adjusting them to have toe out will make your steering worse.

Unfortunately, without a welder, I afraid you're stuck with sub standard steering.

The atv im building had the tie rods in front of the axle and the stearing was realy bad and i moved them in back and it makes a big difference in stability and m,akes stearing easyer!

You don't have to move them. Ackerman just gets applied in a different way.
