I just recently purchased a Manco 485-291 Black Fox go kart. It's a project to say the least. We are redoing most of the cart but was curious how you add a roll cage to the go kart? It did not come with one and I would really like to add it for my grandson. Can you buy parts and if so, where or will I need to fabricate one? IMG_9144.JPEG

Hey Mark,

Howdy & :welcome2:

Triangles are (1) of the strongest structures in construction
...so, incorporating some triangles into the design of your roll cage will make it stronger

Many folks that want to add a roll cage, to their kart look up & watch videos on race car roll cages (all of the same concepts) ;)

I don't know your kids but I've never come close to flipping my kart. Center of gravity is low. Wheels are wide.
If you add a cage up top the center of gravity also rises.

Seat belts with a cage. You want to stay inside and protected.
No belts for no cage.
Idea is to get away from the kart and not roll with it.

Your kids your rules though.
Main thing is to have fun.

Thank you for the help but I may have to outsource the roll cage to someone to fabricate. Is there a way to install a 3 or 4 point harness type seat belts without a roll cage based on the initial picture I posted on this thread?

Don't install seatbelts unless you have a roll cage. Without a cage the goal in a rollover is to be thrown out to not be crushed. It sounds grim but it's better than being stuck under a kart.
