Any body ever attempt to make one?

I have what seems to be an abundance of engine parts laying around. Most of needs to go to the scrap pile. I started wanting to make a yard art cut a way of a V8.
Not really wanting to get all technical but weld up all the parts in respect to real placement. I'm not much for popular nomenclature but I think steampunk would best explain it in one word.

Cutting the block would seem to be the hard part as I don't have access to a big band saw.

I wonder if a BMF sledge would do the work I'd want.

Seems like a few hours of welding scrap together might sell for some big bux.

Me and my neighbor are talking about taking block that got windowed on my kart and covering the hole with plexiglass. When I get the rest of the parts for my new clone build I'll have enough leftovers to put it together and make it run. Should be interesting to watch.

When my boys were younger we spent some time making characters out of lifters and valves. Lifter men and valve men in various poses.

Engine art is cool.

Heck yeah engine art is cool. I've always like just about any little sculpture I've seen. This was our first place trophy, all parts have been 300mph at least once! Lol.

All the pics I found online are more like professional Cut-a-ways. Way cool. I'm not looking for museum quality. Could you imagine the time doing that?

My boss did one of a chainsaw engine. He used a hacksaw and a recipe saw.

You want to do a V8? How about a Ghost Block.
Forget cutting the Block Just leave it out Completely, and Weld everything in place.

I built this four cycle engine from scratch many years ago when I was a teenager. This was before I owned a lathe and a mill. It has external valvetrain components with a external crankshaft and connecting rod. This was my first attempt to build a internal combustion engine which runs very well. It is water cooled with a water pump. I built the radiator from brass tubing both rectangle and round. It is kind of fun to watch it run, notice the roller cam followers.

I'm aquiring parts to make a ghost block. I need push rods and lifters.
I have a crank, cam, pistons with rods, water pump, intake manifold, valves, springs and rockers.

Thanks chancer for the idea. Much easier than busting up a block.

I figured I might want to start small. A full cutaway seemed a little ambitious.

Here's just a few parts I threw together while I had the welder out.

That's awesome. Got any vids of it running?
No but I will make one. I built this engine in the early seventies long before the internet was around and I would have had to shoot a "movie" with a 8mm camera.
